Steve makes an interesting point in an above comment, why draft LB high. Makes me want to breakdown every position just for fun .
QB: starter in place, crap for backup. Will we draft a QB at all? Maybe late but don't see us drafting QB high this year with Rivers still in great form.
RB: Starter in place, change of pace guy in Ekeler then crap. Did this hurt us? I think so, we should be looking at a mid-round RB IMO.
WR: covered
TE: ditto
OL: with Pouncey signed we have solid starters, and depth. Could add more but not a huge need, they'll just be riding pine anyway. Late round pick likely.
DT: starters and rotation in place, solid if expensive but could use??? Could draft DT high then dump somebody.
DE: starters in place plus rotation guy in McCain. Could add another, mid to late round pick likely.
LB: oft-injured starter, then crap. Seriously. Could use at least two new LBs as they will likely see playing time.
DB: solid starters plus backups if Boston is resigned. Could be a pick anywhere depending on BPA.
K: done.
P: done.
So really the only place we have even iffy starters is a couple spots on the D front 7, and yes that includes LB as Perryman misses too many games to be relied upon, sadly. I have a hard time not seeing our first three picks going DT/LB/LB, maybe not in that order but a lineman and two LBs, yes. Maybe one of them is a tweener LB, sure. This is Bradley's chance to get some players he wants, Whiz has his. The lower rounds can be developmental guys anywhere really, but to stop the run now we need to change personennel at a couple of those D front 7 spots IMHO.

Actually, Perryman (when healthy), King and Phillips are the starters. They actually play. They both have a ton more snaps than any LB on the roster. That is not going to change.
Brown and Pullard split time, with Brown getting less as the season went on. Emmanuel sets the edge as the OTTO LB. They are only part time role player, just like the LB in EVERY NFL team.
The guys who play in the base D, besides Perryman are role player, and that won't change if we add better personnel. Again, we play 75% of our snaps in our passing sub packages. 50% of all our snaps are in our dime D. That percentage is not going to change that much. If we get much better LB, teams are just going to sub us off the field.
Everyone likes to credit Perryman with our defensive improvement, but the stats don't bear that out. If you add up all the games Perryman played in and the games that he didn't, then compare them to the games we played mostly the dime, vs mostly nickel, the difference is about the same. The big difference is the number of turnovers we got more than anything. After we got more speed on the field, we started getting a lot more turnovers. The dime D was when our defense started to play well.
Green is the games where we played dime, and yellow was the dime games.

I continue to believe that Phillips played so much only because our LBs were horrid. Better LBs that can cover the pass and Are effective tacklers closer to the LOS are needed. And if Phillips at 210 pounds runs a 4.6, we can look to give him competition with a 230 pound LB that runs a 4.6 and can cover as well and provide a more physical presence. Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
