Even without Poe we have Philon, would not suck in that lineup. I kinda like Davenport in my group at 17.. Davenport in the 1st, Harrison in the 2nd anyone?

I don't think Harrison makes it anywhere near our pick in the 2nd, but if he is there, sure.

I just dont think Davenport is close to Bosa on the edge in run support. So Bosa may help us inside but it also probably creates more edge run D issues with Davenport there. I like that Bosa can move around. So it was just an idea.

Wish we had a full time SAM with speed. I really like Bradham. He called the D from the SAM spot when they lost Hicks. Smart active player who gives you a full compliment of snaps. Id pay the guy if hes not tagged.

Davenport might turn into a good OTTO LB in time. I think he would be an immediate upgrade. He might continue to turn into a pretty good LEO.

As far as a full-time OTTO, maybe we can find one, but the fact is offenses play 3 wr MOST of the time, so unless you have a LB who can match up against them, you have to bring a LB off the field. If the other team has a good receiving TE, then the other 2nd LB in the nickel still leaves a mismatch.

As far as the FA crop of LB, Bradham is an interesting guy. He can play the conventional LB spots, so they move him around in the nickel. But I am not sure he is the kind of player they want at OTTO. Bradley has said he wants more of a traditional 34 OLB type as the OTTO LB. Guy who can physically set the edge and rush the QB some. That isn't Bradham's game exactly. He is a good player, and you can move him around, but he isn't going to control the edge and hold up rushing the QB against an OT. But he does drop well, and can really run. He is also a good tackler, which is what the D really needs. I just think everyone else saw how well he played, and he might be kinda expensive.

Our run D may have been bad with our LB, but it got somewhat better when we played more nickel and dime. We had a couple of bad games (vs Buffalo). But the other bad games when we played mostly dime were vs the Jets, and the big run to Powell and most of the running yards were against our base D. The other bad game was vs KC (2nd one), and that was the whole team playing badly, you can't blame one group for that game. We do give up some mismatches, but since there are so few good TE and FB, I don' think we give up as many thinks. And it's not like the in the box S crowd we have are that great. Addae played the best ball of his career, but he is hardly a dominant player. I like him, but in terms of matchups, I think we can do better. Same with Phillips and Boston at FS. All solid players who had career years, but still replaceable.

As far as DL goes, Phillon can play 3 tech. The other guy who seems to be getting somewhat of a look is Rochelle. According to Bradley they like his length (height) inside as a pass rusher. Add in the usual mix of street FA, we might be OK at 3 tech, even if Liuget continues to under produce. It certainly can't hurt to push him.

The NT spot the other FA name that I see is maybe Alan Branch. Yes, he is nearing the end of the line, but he is still reasonably effective. He is forced out of NE because they have been on a youth movement at DL, and they have other good players ahead of him. He is also fairly cheap.

The other thing we have to do to improve the run DEFENSE is to get better on OFFENSE. People like to think of offense and defense as being unrelated, but the fact is that if we can get a lead and no one is going to run against us. That would be especially true if we can be balanced with a running game. Add in some play action passes and a steady diet of Melvin Gordon, not only can we score a lot of points, but put a tremendous amount of pressure on other teams. Then add a DT who can pressure the QB, it would be awfully hard to mount a comeback against us. Our best run D performances were in games where we scored early and got teams behind. 69 yards vs Den, 97 yards vs NE, 79 yds vs DAl, 89 yds vs Cle, and 65 yds vs Washington. Cover up our run D deficiencies with better O. We should try to upgrade the D side fo things too, but adding an offensive player here or there wouldn't hurt either.

Yeah, way too early. Don't want to draft a kicker at all. Most are free agents and we can sign one like Sturgis or Seabas who are proven kickers. Or they may even bring back Novak but I hope not.
