1st- Christian Wilkins DT Clemson- Not the fastest, not the best rusher, not the biggest anchor...yet he is good at everything, and passed up a pay day last year to go back to school and play for another championship. Character off the charts...and he quietly falls to us at 28, netting us another big steal. I think he ends up having the best career out of this class of
DTs.
2nd- Kaleb McGary OT Washington- Big, nasty mauler with a blue collar mentality. Non stop motor, great locker room guy...all the tools you want in a RT, but needs plenty of work with his feet in the passing game, and technique overall to stay engaged on run blocks (Will sometimes lose balance and slide off) Beats out Tevi, or develops his pro game for a year as a backup.
3rd- Germaine Pratt N.C. State- Converted Safety? ILB who can run and cover and tackle. What's not to like? Linebacking game is not polished, due to position switch...just hasn't been playing there long enough...but that is why we get him in the third. Thomas Davis Jr. anyone?
4th- Tyree Jackson QB Buffalo- Surprised he falls this far, we take a chance on an uber talented, but painfully raw prospect. 2-3 years behind Phillip Rivers learning the pro game, and working off season clinics to get that cannon arm fine tuned and accurate, he could be something in this league...or worse case we spend a 4th rounder on a backup.
5th- Kendall Sheffield CB Ohio State- Another raw talent who shows a big ceiling, but has yet to put it all together on a consistent basis, relying on his phenomenal recovery speed to bail himself out of mistakes. Tackles like a football player, runs like a track star...but has yet to exhibit playmaking ball skills (remember Jammer?) with few interceptions...nice developmental cornerback though, and special teams gunner to start.
6th- Foster Moreau TE LSU- Superior blocker, who surprised at the Senior bowl by showing off more than adequate pass catching skills. High character teammate at LSU, another lunch pail type player who's lack of dominance in any one area allows him to fall to us in the sixth.
7th- Nick Brossette RB LSU- Lacking straight line speed, and underachieving somewhat for years at LSU, this is still a talented rock hauler in between the tackles, with good patience and vision, and a low, compact running style...he doesn't go down easy. Also possesses very adequate pass catching skills. He hasn't showed up as a "take it to the house" guy...but could definitely develop into a solid backup/sometimes starter in the league.

1. My fantasy of Wilkins falling to 28 is put to bed...but my second favorite player, Taylor Rapp, is available at 28. A "Taylor" made Telesco type football player, with superb football intelligence and instincts. Not a track star, but plenty of range, quicker than his 40 time...and he tackles like a pro. Perfect complimentary combo safety to Derwin James.
2. We still pick up Pratt to backup Perryman, but we get him in the fourth round....after signing Tyrod for a couple years, I think we pass over QB prospects this year, so no Tyree Jackson.
3. So back to the third round, we need to address the Dline, with no activity in resigning Square or Philon...and not landing a blue chipper in the first...really like this kid Saunders. Watch his combine workout...you won't believe how quick he is...Senior bowl tape also good. I see him as a Mebane understudy...more athletic and penetrating than a pure anchor...but with that 2 gap potential as well....those powerful bowling ball types can be a real pain for guards/centers.
4. As the draft approaches, players' average draft position is still in flux...I'm seeing little buzz or talk of Sheffield, who is more athlete than football player at this point...but some mocks have Moreau going in the 2nd or 3rd rounds ( I still think he is a day 3 pick)...so I flip flopped these two, but I still like them both for this squad.
