1. Keep your Defense rested.
2. Keeps high powered offenses like Broncos/Eagles out of their normal rhythm.
3. Eats clock speeds the game up which in theory tightens the margins allowing the underdog to have a better chance.
4. Not only is controlling the ball important for this to work but also having a positive turnover ratio. It is devastating to a defense to give up an 8 minute drive only to have their offense commit a turnover and throw the D right back out on the field.
Negatives
1. With a ball control offense you are running more plays which creates a higher chance for a tunrover and also a drive killing penalty
2. Requires a disciplined team to not only control the ball through the run and/or short passing game but also a big time QB that keeps that 3rd down % high. Not a Favre/Cutler/Flaco type offense.

That also means the opponent Defensed is usually gassed come the 4th quarter

If you can't do your negatives more often than not, than you aren't really a ball control offense.
Our offensive philosophy gives the offense the best chance for success on a per play basis imo. We are simply trying to exploit the defense and beat them straight up. It's one of the reasons why I think our success is repeatable. We are simply beating opponents with no gimmicks. We aren't trying to catch them unprepared like a hurry up. We are simply lining up and taking advantage of mismatches/scheme.
The byproducts are great obviously of maintaining possession and resting the defense, but our philosophy wouldn't work if the offense wasn't able to exploit our matchups. Just holding the ball for a bunch of time doesn't mean shit if you can't score (TD or FG, but it needs to happen virtually every possession). For that, you have to have the personnel at every level of the offense. The addition of Floyd this season has balanced the offense which is why we've had so much success. If we can continue limiting turnovers and improve our run game slightly, it will be even more unstoppable.
Is best supported by a defence that creates turn over.
That helps, but it just needs to limit big plays IMO. The longer an opposing offense takes to score, the more possessions it will require to keep up with us. Plus most offenses simply aren't efficient or built for long drives. One penalty will inevitably derail a drive and force a punt.
That's one of the reasons why the Raiders were able to keep up. Big plays really hurt.
It puts a ton of pressure on the other offense if we get a lead on them. Games quickly become a test of offensive efficiency for the other team, and forces them to score quickly to keep pace, or they run the risk of not having enough possessions to score the points needed to take a lead.
No its up because I believe the system intentionally tries to hold the ball for 2/3rds of the game putting pressure on opposing offences to be perfect.
