    Mike McCoy story

So it's my wife and my wedding anniversary tonight. We went to the Pacific Coast Grill in Cardiff by the Sea for dinner. We had a few drinks at the bar before dinner and were seated outside on the patio and ordered dinner. A few minutes later McCoy, his wife, daughter and a friend of the daughter were seated at the table next to us. I recognized him but didn't say anything as he was out to dinner with his family and I didn't want to bother him.

As the sun was setting a bunch of people were taking pictures and his wife jumped up and went over to take pictures so everyone could be in the shot. My wife and I wanted a picture of the sunset so we went up and she took our picture too. I asked if that was Mike McCoy and she said yes and she called him over to us. We chatted with them for a good 15 minutes. He and his wife are genuinely good people. They asked about our family, how long we have been married, where our seats were, and on and on. We would have talked a lot longer but our dinner was served so we had to sit down and eat. When we were done eating and the waitress brought the bill and inside was a happy anniversary note and no bill - they picked up our tab! And we are talking $150 tab. I was blown away. We thanked them profusely and you could tell they were happy to do it for us.

I have to say it really did open my eyes to the guy. I will warn you - I will not tolerate any bad mouthing of him from you guys!

To me it doesnt surprise me...Mike seems like a standup guy from hearing him speak. Of course the real question is how good of a coach is he? I think he has the right tools and is young...he will do well someday. We may give up before that starts though.

I have the same opinion of Rivers...would expect the same from him.

Congratulations on your anniversary. My friend's son went to college at Utah is good friends with McCoy. Both have had nothing but good things to say about him. I'll relay your story. They'll enjoy reading it.

                    Congrats on your anniversary.

Great story. One thing that gets lost in today's "win now" world, these coaches are real people, with real families.

Generally I have found, that most people in the coaching profession (especially professional coaches, which all they do is coach...which includes college coaches), are usually top notch people.
They can't get to where they have gotten in their life by being jerks. Now occasionally, those at the top of their profession can forget where they came from.... but by and large the coaching profession is made up of great people.

In my years as a HS BB coach, I have gotten to know several college coaches. And I have liked them all. Even the folks who coach for my rival schools.
"...of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."

What they said. Nice story, and congrats!
                        Prediction:
                        Correct: Chargers CI fails miserably.
Fail: Team stays in San Diego until their lease runs out in 2020. (without getting new deal done by then) .
Sig Bet WIN: The Chargers will file for relocation on January 15.
