The NFL's next great D just got better

The hype is unstoppable now ....

Being a Chargers fan in 2016 must have felt like getting a 200-foot head start in a race every week and still eating dirt at the end . Then a few extra shovels of dirt were tossed on when your team packed up, moving from San Diego to Los Angeles...

Very solid article. The Chargers have 4 key pieces in fielding a top level D. Two dominant pass rushers and two high quality CB's. It's great to see Ingram and Bosa will be around for the next 4 years. If Verrett can stay healthly (that's a big if IMO) this D will easily be a top 10 unit.

Does anyone remember how long of a contract Hayward signed for? I believe it was a two year deal, which means he is going to get paid next year if he played close to the level he did last year. The question is, can the new LA Chargers afford two top tier CB's?

Heyward has played 1 of his 3 year deal.

Our key to the season is we need some guys to step up

1). We still have Okung, who is a good, but not great OT. Barksdale has to play up to his level of play 2 years ago, but he is not a great player either.
2). If all the young guys step up, Heyward and Verrett stay healthy and play like they did last year, we are in good shape at CB.
3). S we are a little weak, although I think Addai at FS and Lowry at SS would allow both to play their most natural positions and put in career years. Still, I don' think either is going to light the world on fire. Hopefully, the rookies can step up by the end of the year.
4). Liuget and Reid need to provide an inside pass rush. Edge rushers are necessary and will be more productive, but to get the most out of them, and to hurt short passing games, you need quick pressure up the middle.
5). WR need to find their roles a bit more than last year. Good talent, especially once Mike Williams gets going, but it is the strength of the group that would carry them, more than any individuals talent.
6). New OG need to play well.
7). RB need to find their roles quickly and step up their games.
8). Someone besides Bosa and Ingram needs to provide some edge rush. Nothing wrong with the starters, but if they have to play every down, then they will have nothing left to rush the QB in the 4th Qtr. Even one edge guy on running downs, like rookie Issac Rochelle playing on run downs, and/or Attaochu on some passing downs would make sure that late in the game Bosa and Ingram will be on the field on key 3rd downs in the 2nd half and especially the late 4th qtr.,

RE item #3: Haven't heard anything about McCoil in this new scheme. He seemed a little awkward covering guys in secondary but was touted as a big hitter as a S playing closer up. Is he even still on the team?
