    Charger Trivia

In the Chargers' history, they have had three punters and one placekicker who were also regular position players as well. Without looking it up, can you name them and their respective positions? Obviously they were from the early days of the franchise when things weren't as specialized as they are today.
Disclaimer: This is all from my memory, so take it FWIW ;^)

IIRC, Paul McGuire was a PK and LB and Tobin Rote was a QB and punter. Did RB Keith Lincoln also do some punting or am I making that up? No idea who the fourth one could be, maybe QB Jack Kemp? I'm making some guesses here but I think one or two of them may be right.

BR Smith did some kicking in a game as a backup.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

Paul Maguire is one of them. He was the Bolts' first punter ever and a good one. He did play linebacker as well. No cigar though on Tobin Rote, Keith Lincoln, Jack Kemp or BR Smith.

I confused Tobin Rote with John Hadl. He was the one I was thinking of.

Dick Van Ramporst? Can't spell that so you know I didn't look it up. I just remember his name.

John Hadl is correct. Dick Van Raaphorst was a placekicker only. Two to go.

Kieth Lincoln? haha. Now I'm just guessing cuz I like this thread. I'll have some questions in the future. I was there for tons of it. I could give stuff no one would know. Like how Rick Redmans wife kicked his ass in my living room. haha.

Oh and she also kicked the commissioners ass about the drug thing. She was and is a firery redhead. I love Elaine.

Well Craig, you just backed into the answer to punter #3. Rick Redman was a starting linebacker with the Bolts and was also their punter. He was never much of a distance punter, but he always kicked the ball high and there was almost never a return. Sid Gillman said he liked it that way. A good friend of mine was an engineer in Seattle. He told me Rick Redman took over his father-in-law's (Rick's) construction business. Rick and my friend worked on several large projects together and he said Rick was a good businessman and was really good at what he did.

Now for the final Charger who was a placekicker and also a position player. IMO, this is the most difficult one of the four.

Since it's about the slowest time of the year, and I never finished up this thread, the final Charger who was a position player and in this case, a placekicker was George Blair, 1961-1964. Blair played defensive back as well as being the kicker.
