It's all about how much time each team spend on their workout. There are all types of exercises and works that was designed to accomplish a certain goals. Some designed to lose fat on certain body parts. Some designed to prevent injury for a specific sport/work. Some designed to enhance game performance for a specific sport. D-Wade (NBA) workout with the same guy that worked for Michael Jordan.

Wade is one of the hardest worker but he never fully healthy for the season, always hurt here and there, with nagging injuries. That's because he chose to spend time working mostly on game performance, speed, quickness, his game and playing style depend so much on acceleration and penetration. He never was a good jump shooter.

It seems this year the Chargers and Lynn really emphasize the exercises to limit injury. And the workout/exercises that help on field performance suffers because of that. No one can workout 7/24. That's probably why we see certain skill positions struggle on the field this year compare to last few years.

I remember one of ATL Mike Smith's team was a talented team that year and they had 1 of the healthiest teams in NFL history that year, and went 8-8, missed the playoff. That team has Matt Ryan and Michael Turner in their prime, talented and solid depth all over the team. Their on field performance just didn't match their physical talent on paper.

So it's all about time spend. If they spend enough time on something they'll succeed at that phase, but other phases will take a step back.

Other examples: Andy Reid and his coaching staff spend everyday during all 2 weeks on their Bye to plan for the next opponent after the Bye. That's why his PHI and KC teams always win after Bye and his record after the Bye is very dominating. It's probably 100 - 6 or something like that. But his teams usually not very improve during the 2nd half of the season and ended up getting outplay and outcoach in the postseason.

Some teams, including Norv Turner's SD teams usually use the Bye week for self evaluate and come up with new things X&O scheme wise. That's why Norv's team improve, played really well and always seem to went on a late season playoff push. His teams was hot at the end of the season.

It's not always the same. How most teams use their Bye week really depend on the unique status of their team during each season. Do they deserve a week off? How did they perform in the 1st half of the season? What went wrong and what went right during the 1st half. Injury situation, etc. But, most coaches have their own philosophy, style and preference. Andy Reid almost always give his team the whole week off, while he and the staff working solely on their next opponent, take advantage of every day that they have over their opponent.

Parcell, Bill Cowher, Mike Tomlin, Marty etc., usually have light practices during the Bye week that very similar to training camp. They do basic drills and review basic principles. Tackling. Protecting the ball. Etc. Mike Riley and Marty did that with the Bolts went they're in SD. And I believe Bobby Ross did that too with SD and DET and his college teams.

NE is different. They spend time more than anyone (according to books about Belichick and the authors who has sources close to NE and other coaches interview) but actually the time that's spend for basic stuff is fewer than anyone else. They spend a huge amount of time on situational football and scenario, especially in training camp. The other things that they work really hard on is, surprisingly, not themselves, but on each opponents. They already had a solid foundation scouting teams during the offseason, and practicing it during the week leading to the game.

That's why we always see NE kinda sluggish in the beginning of the season. But improve over time. And when there is that important time in the game when that 4th and long, that clutch play need to be make, or when they need to hold their opponent on the final drive, or when they need to make a game winning/typing FG as the clock go to 0, they always make it. It's because they spend more time on it and practice more.

Belichick's assistants have a hard time duplicate this method, because when they go to other team, that team doesn't have the Belichick foundation (almost 20 years). They need to rebuild and lay that foundation, and really can't afford to spend too much time on practicing rare situations over basic situations.

According to Lynn interviews on the team website. It seems he gave the players whole week off, while he and staff will self evaluate to come up with new and creative things to play with in the 2nd part of the season.

Norv and McCoy did the same thing here, only Norv did that much better than McCoy because he's a better schemer than McCoy and much more deceptive as a plays designer. McCoy just too straightforward for the scheme of this complicated game, other than 1 season here, his teams always regress in the 2nd half, both 2nd half of the game and the season.

Marty was doing the basic stuff similar to training camp during Bye week, his teams always solid and consistent in protecting the football and didn't get penalized a lot. Similar to Bobby Ross, their teams were very discipline, but lack the X&0 creativity like Kevin Gilbride and Norv Turner for success in the playoff.

Then again, Gilbride and Turner's teams were so suck and indiscipline in the regular season were already eliminated from playoff contention, so they didn't even get to show off their schemes to make some noise in the postseason.

But when Norv actually got into the playoff, his teams did make noise in the postseason, they upset better teams, including some of the Manning's talented historical offense and their Bob Sanders, Dwight Freeney led defense, and gave the 16-0 NE a fight, loss on a 4th down stop on a LT run, on a day where a young Rivers was playing with 1 leg.

That year NE was basically a giant, the offense was historical and the underrated defense was one of the best in the league, top 5 in scoring defense. It was a Goliath vs. David kind of fight and SD came up a bit short. But their performance during that playoff run was very respectable and admirable.

I'm kinda nervous in the next 2 games because if we lose to both JAX and BUF then basically the season is over. It's really doubtful that KC will have an epic collapse like both the DEN teams (Mike Shannahan and Joshie McDaniel) did when Norv was here, we got lucky and sneak into the playoff and actually made some noise.

Andy Reid is a good coach and he has a good group to work with. Alex Smith this year actually plays like a top pick. And the pure quickness and straight line speed of both Hunt and Hill is just nightmarish for defensive coaches and players. And when you think you can slow down these 2 guys, then there is Kelce catching a long ball from Smith.

I didn't realize enough how dominant the JAX defense really is this year. Remind me of some of the dominant defenses in recent history, BAL 2000, NE 2003/2004, the postseason defense of IND in Manning first SB run (their Bob Sanders/Freeney defense was called the worst in the regular season due to Bob Sanders' injury and their secondary was a mess, everybody were out of position trying to over play to cover up for everybody else. But they played to their true potential in that playoff when Sanders was back.), also the NO defense (Bountygate, players was paid to play hard and injured opposing players, players were given assignment to "take out" the important players from the other team) in that playoff, during Payton-Brees only SB run. The NYG 2 SB defenses and pass rushes. Some Pete Carroll defenses with NE (Ty Law led) and SEA (probably the most talented in the league), some of the Jim Johnson's sack happy defenses when Andy Reid was coaching in PHI, etc..

But this JAX defense even look better and more dominant than some of the defenses mentioned above.

IMO the Chargers need to go 2-0 the next two games for a chance at the playoffs. If they lose either game their season is over

If we split with them, I think we'll need to win the rest of the season and the winner needs to have a bad 2nd half. Slim chance.

I'm more confidence in the BUF game than this game. Lynn knows BUF really well. But Bradley knows JAX really well from top to bottom, too. So we're lucky with those 2 guys on the staff for this 2 games.

McCoy knowledge on our team really hurt us in the 1st game. The recently benched Sieman moved the ball at will against us. Probably his best game this year. We adjusted later base on that 1st game and shut them out.

As everybody is stating these next two games are huge if there is to be any playoff possibilities it very well can come down to tie-breakers with Jag and Bills if we all end up with same record head-to-head will become a factor 9-7 we are looking on the outside, 10-6 might get us a wild-card. We don't want to be tied with either of these teams in the end, and lose out on tie-breaker head-to-head. So 7-1 has to be the minimum over the last 8 games. With the schedule a loss other than KC would be 10-6, but ideal you would take a loss against one of the NFC opponents thus giving us a better record in the AFC versus the AFC. Washington is beatable and Dallas without Elliot is beatable. Playoffs start this Sunday for us.

Reading a few of the comments about how the Jags are looking for revenge against us because of how we have dominated the recent games against them, I'm expecting them to try and come out and push us around, do a lot of trash talking, and a take few cheap shots.
