Week 11 Charger Power Rankings and Ratings

    Summary:

    ranks2017.jpg

Even with a loss, very little change in the average ranking and rating. Some on the board already have given up on the playoffs, but so many contenders for the 6th spot lost last week.

The projected initial pick is based on an overall final record of 6-10, with a Strength of Schedule of 49%.

    Blurbs follow.

The Los Angeles Chargers have been kings of the heartbreaking loss over the last couple years. However, "heartbreaking" doesn't even describe their loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

I admire the Chargers for fighting, though. Their defense has gotten better as the year has gone on. L.A. was able to stop the run against one of the best rushing teams in Jacksonville. Leonard Fournette, T.J. Yeldon and Chris Ivory were non-factors.

The Chargers are going to be sick when they go back and watch the game film from Jacksonville. They had the game won, but a fumble by Austin Ekeler prevented the Chargers from putting it away.

L.A. is going to be a pain in the ass for teams down the stretch, but the six losses the team already has will be too much to overcome. The Chargers have let too many games slip away to make the postseason.

The Chargers might be the best 3-6 team ever. Or, they're the best at screwing up potential victories. One of those two. Either way, they're the best at something.

Seriously, though, the Chargers have won just three of nine games, but the talent they have on their team, particularly their defense, is unreal. With Denzel Perryman back on the field, their front seven is amazing, and it shouldn't surprise anyone that they clamped down on Leonard Fournette so easily. What they need are better offensive linemen and a coaching staff that actually knows what the hell it's doing.

    Elliott Harrison, 17 (LW 15)

The Chargers continue to play relatively good football, even if the win-loss record doesn't reflect it. The voltage petered out in overtime of the loss to the Jaguars, but not before the Bolts had positioned themselves to win. You had to feel bad for Austin Ekeler, who won himself a prominent role in coordinator Ken Whisenhunt's offense, even over the much-ballyhooed Melvin Gordon, only to lose the football at the most unclutch time. Bottom line: Playing in Jacksonville isn't as easy as it used to be. The Chargers are going to be a hard out down the stretch.

They continue to lose close game after close game. It's too bad because this team has talent.

They should replace the lightning bolts on the helmets with a horseshoe on one side and a hand grenade on the other.

Vinnie Iyer, Sporting News 23 (LW 24)

The Bolts have trouble locking down games, as more often than not, they come up lame. With Rivers and the defense, that shouldn't be the case, but it's the reality they have to face.

Does any team lose more ridiculous games? No.

S Tre Boston picked off TWO passes in final two minutes of regulation Sunday as Bolts tried to salt away three-point lead. "Tre" needed three.

Projected wins: 7.2. The Chargers have made losing close games into an art form. They have five losses by eight or fewer points this season, tied with the 49ers for most in the NFL. Statistically, they're bound to win in more of these situations sooner or later.

        Reddit 21 (LW 19)

Some good things did in fact happen on Sunday, but once again the Chargers find more excruciating and foolish ways to lose games. There was a fake punt turning into a TD. We had mistakes and penalties late in the game that were a killer. Throw in a former Charger getting his slice of revenge and it hurts more. And just for good measure the team has Rivers in the concussion protocol. This was a total team loss. The Chargers need to figure it out soon if they have any expectations of being in the playoff hunt.
