If the Chargers win Saturday, they'll be in great shape to win the AFC West. If they don't? They'll be 7-7 and in some trouble. They'd have to win their final two to have any shot, and it still would be tough to get in. It's hard to see a 9-7 Chargers team passing the Ravens (who have a very easy remaining schedule). The Titans could bottom out the rest of the way and maybe that's the Chargers' chance to get a wild-card spot, but the Titans somehow already have eight wins and just need to fall forward over the finish line. If the Chargers miss the playoffs, the rest of the AFC postseason field will be thrilled. What a huge game on Saturday night.

It's crazy to think that if the Chargers didn't have kicking woes, or if they could simply run out the clock at Jacksonville, they could be 10-3 right now, with their only losses being to New England, Philadelphia and Kansas City. It's even crazier to think that they were once 0-4.

The Chargers are expected to win in Kansas City, but it's not going to be as easy as some bettors expect it to be. The Chiefs have dominated the rivalry over the years, beating the Chargers in seven consecutive meetings.

    Elliot Harrison, NFL.com 9 (LW 10 )

Philip Rivers was slinging it all over the ballpark for the better part Sunday's game. That is, until the win over the Redskins got so out of hand that Anthony Lynn pulled his franchise quarterback in the fourth quarter. Even with the major slamming of the brakes of offense, Rivers departed eaaarrlllly with more than 300 yards passing. More impressively, Rivers averaged 10.3 yards per throw. Media and statniks alike pay far too much attention to the "Cmp %" section on the stat line and not enough to the "Y/A." Rivers is hovering around 7.8 for his career, ranking fifth highest among active passers. More impressive: He's also led the NFL in that category three times. Tom Brady can't say that. Nor can Aaron Rodgers.

They are riding high heading into Arrowhead to play the Chiefs. The winner of that game will likely win the division.

The playoffs don't begin on Saturday night for the Chargers -- they continue.

Vinnie Iyer, Sporting News 12 (LW 13 )

The Chargers kept chugging along against Washington, and now they get a long-awaited second shot against the Chiefs. Going from 0-4 to favorites in the AFC West should put Anthony Lynn in the Coach of the Year conversation.

Major reason they've seized momentum in AFC West? How about gaudy plus-10 turnover differential (zero giveaways) during three-game win streak.
        ---

        ESPN 11 (LW 11)

The Chargers have a winning record despite an 0-4 start thanks to takeaways and giveaways. Philip Rivers has the lowest interception percentage of his career, Melvin Gordon has the most touches without a fumble (272) and the defense has 20 takeaways since the start of Week 5, tied for most in the NFL.

        Reddit 11 (LW 11)

On the outside looking in for the playoffs, the Chargers followed up their unconvincing win against the Browns with a...more convincing win against the Redskins. The passing offense looked sharp, with both Keenan Allen and Tyrell Williams eclipsing 100 yards on the air. Desmond King also continues to showcase his strengths and is a rising star on defense. The Chargers will head to Kansas City next Saturday night for a pivotal, possibly division-deciding contest

My worst season outcome is draft position 19.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

The site I get that from doesn't account for playoff seedings, yet. Tankathon does, and has us at 16, the Ravens bumped them from 15 due to S.O.S. Worst case is #20, but I think that spot will be taken by a NFC team

The "don't turn the ball over" emphasis early in the season had limited the offense a bit, but it's really paying off now.

Rivers has the lowest INT rate in his HOF career. He's maybe hasn't play his best football in his career, but definitely playing the smartest football in his career, as of right now.

Gordon goes from a fumbler to one of the most careful RBs in protection of the football.

I'd say the Martyball emphasis of TOs has been paying off in a huge way. The Martyball we were playing early in the season had limited the offense and contribute to losses. But they're paying up devidence now.
