In light of the Henry injury, what I'd like to see the Chargers do is trade for rookie Ian Thomas, who has been called a "Gates clone" and is buried on the depth chart behind Greg Olsen in Carolina.

Then, bring back Gates at the vet minimum, primarily in an advisory role / on-the-field coach / red zone threat (which he still can be) and have him teach Thomas all of his secrets this year. Antonio would also get to have a "farewell tour" year with us this way.

Next year, when HH returns, we have him and Thomas, a.k.a. "Gates 2.0", as a 1-2 punch at TE.

Wishful thinking, I'm sure. But it would be cool if it actually came to pass.
