How are the rookies doing in the camp?

    Hi,

    1. Could someone help advise how our rookies are doing in the camp?

    2. How about M.Willams & F.Lamp?

    Thank you very much!

There hasn't really been much said about camp. Williams suffered a pulled hamstring so was held out of many of the drills. Nothing about Lamp. I think he's still rehabbing from his most recent operation.

From what I have read, so far James has been as advertised and may push Addae to FS. Super early of course. There is an Udfa lb who Stewart likes a lot but I cannot remember the name. Played at Houston.

Artavis Scott has looked really sharp the whole off season and may surprise.

Verrett looks oks much better than this time last year and is practicing with the starters.

NFL.com seems to have added some draft reveiws on UDFAs that I hadn't seen before.

Brown was a top-10 national football recruit out of Beaumont, Texas, who excelled on the track as much as on the gridiron. In fact, the 2013 Texas Class 4A 100-meter champion was also the state's Mr. Football that year. He won the 110-meter hurdles in the Junior Olympics and USA Junior Nationals, and participates on the Tide's track squad on relays and as a hurdler. Coaches got Brown on the field in 13 games as a true freshman in 2014, starting two and making 10 tackles. He was a reserve and special teams ace (eight coverage tackles) as a sophomore before earning more playing time in 2016 (32 tackles, 2.5 for loss, two interceptions). Brown played in all 14 games of his senior year, starting once and making 31 stops, an interception, and two pass breakups. He had his issues while at school, being sent home before the team's 2015 bowl game, and then suspended indefinitely by the NCAA for unspecified reasons (reported for failed drug tests). The suspension was limited to the first four games of the 2016 season on appeal.

            Overview
Brown is a physical nickel cornerback with a major in run support and a minor in special teams cover talent. Brown has too much tightness in his lower half to match routes and make plays on the ball, but his ability to support the run could lead teams to beef him up and try him at a hybrid linebacker role in sub-packages. Brown is going to run well at the Combine and should be drafted on the third day for his special teams talent alone.

            Strengths
            • Built like a safety with muscular arms and thick, well-defined lowers
            • Nickel cornerback with good toughness
            • Eager and aggressive in run support
            • Punch can rattle pads of slot blockers before discarding
            • Launches himself into contact
            • Size/speed prospect
            • Able to turn and run hip-to-hip with just about anyone
            • Expected to run well at Combine
            • Plus downhill closing burst from off-man coverage
            • Core special teams talent all day long
            • Offers immediate kick coverage value as one of the first down the field and has experience as gunner in punt team

            Weaknesses
            • Hip and ankle tightness creates movement limitations
            • Clunky in early stages of opening hips to run
            • Plays with narrow base and displays balance concerns in coverage
            • Linear mover who is unable to make sudden directional changes
            • Lateral transitions are sluggish
            • Allows excessive separation out of breaks
            • Very low rate of ball production with quarterbacks playing pitch and catch in front of him
            • Doesn't turn to find the ball downfield
            • Overshoots his target as tackler in space
            Sources Tell Us

"He's not going to make plays in passing game, but he's really physical against the run. When you draft him you know he's going to immediately help you on special teams and against the run if he has to play so there is value there." - NFC area scout

It seems as though Facyson has been a Hokie for a decade. The Georgia High School All-Region corner came to Blacksburg a semester early (January 2013) and made an instant impression. He was the team's top defensive newcomer in spring practice, and then excelled as a true freshman. Facyson was a third-team All-ACC pick by league media and earned some Freshman All-American notice by starting nine of 12 games played, intercepting five passes, and breaking up eight others. The following spring, however, he had a stress reaction in his left leg which required a bone graft. He started three games in 2014, but aggravated the leg injury, missing the final nine games. Facyson also broke his leg in a December practice which required surgery. Somehow, he returned to start 10 of 12 games played in 2015, making 27 tackles, breaking up 10 passes. Facyson seemed healthier in his junior season, using his size and length to play with physicality (48 tackles, four for loss) and consistently knock away passes (11) while starting all 14 games. He started 11-of-13 games played in 2017, posting 19 tackles, two for loss, and five pass breakups.

            Overview
Facyson has terrific size and length and has tape in his background that shows off his disruptive play when his coverage is good. He struggles to stay in phase with complex routes and needs help over the top against speed. Facyson is scheme dependent and may need to be paired with a team looking for a press-and-trial or cover-two cornerback. Facyson's size could push him up the draft board by a round and he has a chance to become an eventual starter if he lands with the right fit.
            Strengths
            • Excellent size and arm length
            • Crowds possession receivers deterring quarterbacks from looking his way
            • Is long enough to challenge catch points without running through wide receiver
            • Virginia Tech's all-time leader in passes defensed
            • Consistently challenges throws with play-side hand and operates with good timing
            • Able to sink into receivers along the boundary and disrupt 50-50 balls
            • Extremely mature and responsible and well-liked by coaches and teammates in his locker room
            • Quick to digest information
            • Has experience in a variety of techniques and coverage
            • Able tackler who is reliable along the edge in run support
            Weaknesses
            • Reaction time in opening from press is below average
            • Footwork can be sluggish and disjointed
            • Plays top-heavy in space causing bouts with balance
            • Not much route anticipation
            • Has noticeable delay in transitions when attempting to mirror route breaks
            • Explosive receivers will lose him
            • Long speed is below average
            • Dealt with separate issues to the same leg early in his career and a wrist injury caused him to miss time this season
            • Ball production has regressed with no interceptions since freshman season and just five passes defensed this year
            • Doesn't turn to find ball consistently when back is to the quarterback
            Sources Tell Us

"He's tall, he can challenge the catch, he's smart and he's a great teammate. I just see him as really limited. I'm interested to see how he runs because I thought he looked slow this year but he ran pretty well with (James) Washington on deep route and Washington can run." -- former NFL defensive backs coach
