It seems like the Chargers haven’t had an easy win since the 1980s. Every game seems to be harder than it should. But, they got a big road win at Seattle, and they’re still keeping the pressure on the Chiefs in the AFC West. And, hopefully, they get Joey Bosa back at some point.

(same as last week... he thinks the Chargers are overrated... Comments modified for the Seahawks)

Sorry, I thought I was a member of the national media for a second. Yes. The Chargers only lost to the Rams and Chiefs. This is true. So what? They got blown out in both games. They barely beat C.J. Beathard at home. Their other three wins are against the Bills, who suck, the Raiders, who suck, and the Browns, who saw Baker Mayfield get hurt in the first quarter, and the Titans, who shot themselves in the foot repeatedly; and the Seahawks, who are mediocre at best. None of those teams have winning records.

The Chargers can't defend the middle of the field, and their pass rush isn't very good. I don't trust their offensive line either, and they have a shaky coaching staff. They have reached obscene levels of overrated, and I can't wait to make money betting against them.

Got hazed by a Seahawks fan I met at the airport for being lazy. He said I was pulling generic stats when, in my blurb for Chargers- Seahawks in the Week 9 Game Picks, I noted how many chunk runs the Chargers have manufactured this season. Well, I am not one to take glee at another's misfortune, so I won't say anything. Anyway, important win for the Bolts in a tough place to play. (OK, so now I will mention that the Chargers' runners produced gains of 28, 16, 34, 20, 21 and 14 yards. That's a helluva lot of 10-plus-yard runs for a single game. Oh, let's get back to the column ...) Close call there at the end, as it appeared Jahleel Addae tweaked that last Russell Wilson offering jusssssssssssst a smidge ... but it was enough for big W.

They are on a roll right now and have a real chance to push the Chiefs in the division. Philip Rivers continues to play well.

Rebecca Toback, SB Nation 5 (LW 5)

The Patriots and Chiefs both moved down one spot, but more because of the Saints’ recent dominance than anything else. Those three teams along with the Rams are clearly separating from the pack and the 6-2 Chargers aren’t far behind, coming in at No. 5 on the rankings after their 25-17 win over the Seahawks. The Chargers will have another chance to beat the Chiefs in Week 15. LA lost by 10 to Kansas City in Week 1.

An all-L.A. Super Bowl isn’t out of the question.

Vinnie Iyer, Sporting News 5 (LW 6)

The Chargers survived a tough road environment in Seattle with a strong all-around performance. They’re doing more than enough to make the Chiefs sweat in the division.

Los Angeles keeps rolling with five straight wins, putting pressure on Kansas City.

Next three opponents 6-19 collectively. Bolts will be in mix for AFC's best record — not that "home" playoff games would help them much.

        ESPN 5 (LW 5)

The Chargers are a little ahead of where they were expected to be in the preseason (preseason rank 10), thanks to Philip Rivers playing perhaps his best football as a pro. He has completed 67 percent of his passes for 2,238 yards and 19 touchdowns, and he has thrown just three interceptions. Rivers has done a nice job of staying steady and playing within himself, letting the game come to him. -- Eric Williams

It’s hard to keep winning close games without a reliable kicker—as Chargers fans are well aware—but this year, at least, it seems to be working out mostly fine so far.

        Reddit u/NFLPowerRankers 6 (LW 6)

For much of the game, the Chargers looked to be in control against a solid Seahawks team. The offense was clicking nicely, and the defense made some good plays. The Chargers also nearly lost control of the game due in part to the continued struggles of Caleb Sturgis, who finally paid for it yesterday. Mike Badgley did not miss a kick in his relief stint, so it'll be up to him to aid the team in the kicking game as they head to Oakland.

Bleacher Report Consensus 7 (LW 7)

There really isn't enough being said and written about the Los Angeles Chargers. They are the best team in the AFC no one is really talking about. Good, yet somewhat invisible in the shadow of the Rams in L.A.

Yes, the Chargers had to hang on to beat the Seahawks in Week 9. But this marked the first time in Russell Wilson's career that an AFC team came to the Pacific Northwest and left with a win.

        That's pretty impressive.

There's been quite a bit about this Chargers team that's been impressive in 2018. Melvin Gordon is playing as well as any running back in the NFL. Philip Rivers has 19 touchdown passes against just three interceptions and a passer rating of 116.5. And despite not having Joey Bosa for the entire season, the Chargers are playing the best defense in the AFC West.

Sobleski rationalized why they deserve more respect:

"Maybe the Chargers are actually Los Angeles' best team. In a what-have-you-done-lately league, the Chargers are riding a five-game winning streak, while the Rams felt their first sting of defeat. At 6-2, the Chargers are still a half-step behind their city rival, yet the rest of the AFC must acknowledge that Anthony Lynn's squad is as dangerous as anyone in the conference."

After missing extra points in four consecutive games and field goals in each of the last three, LA kicker Caleb Sturgis was mercifully cut on Monday.

Melvin Gordon wasted no time in his return from a hamstring injury, getting down to brass tacks with 123 yards (113 of the rushing variety) and a touchdown against the Seahawks in Week 9. The Caleb Sturgis Era in Los Angeles ended Monday when the Bolts sent him packing in favor of practice squadder Mike Badgley. It was probably for the best—Sturgis has been a disaster this year, converting just 9-of-13 field goals while shanking six of his 15 extra points. Is Hunter Henry (ACL) angling for a late-season return? It sure seems like it.

The Chargers won a big matchup on the road in Seattle on Sunday. Since the start of 2016, the Chargers have the second-biggest change in PFFELO ratings, which shows the success that Anthony Lynn has had with this team. The expectation is for 10.5 wins in 2018 and right now we have their super bowl odds just shy of 3.5%. The Chargers are the best passing team in the league from an EPA standpoint on early downs. They have generated 0.42 EPA per pass attempt with a 58% success rate on early downs. Those type of numbers will lead to success in the playoffs.
