The Chargers won in Pittsburgh on Sunday night, a win that never would've happened had the Chargers been called for a false start on their first touchdown and had two Steeler defenders not run into each other on the should've-been interception that turned into a touchdown to Keenan Allen. The Chargers have been extremely lucky this season, and it's going to catch up to them eventually.

The Chargers can't defend the middle of the field, and they also can't stop the run in the wake of Corey Liuget's injury.

Can you imagine how good this Chargers team would be if it was at full steam? The operation has been devoid of many of its parts this season. On Sunday, we all saw what Anthony Lynn's group is capable of when both sides of the ball play cohesively. The Bolts lost tight end Hunter Henry and cornerback Jason Verrett -- two Pro Bowl-level players who are difficult to replace -- early in the year. (Verrett has only appeared in 25 of 92 possible games since the Chargers drafted him in 2014, but Henry was supposed to be central to the offense, particularly in the red zone.) Then Joey Bosa, who didn't make his first start this season until Week 11, had his 2018 coming-out party, notching two sacks against the Cardinals in Week 12 -- only for running back Melvin Gordon to be lost in the same game. After all that, there was Los Angeles on Sunday, coming back from a 16-point second-half deficit to defeat a Super Bowl contender on the road.

That was an impressive victory on the road against the Steelers. Philip Rivers has been special this season.

Fingers crossed for a playoff game in a 30,000-seat stadium.

The Chargers have to be taken seriously in their quest to potentially take down the Chiefs after their Week 1 loss to KC. Anthony Lynn and Philip Rivers form a coach-QB combination that should be getting a lot more attention.

Team so often vexed by special teams got 73-yard punt return for TD in fourth quarter, game-winning FG at gun in comeback at Pittsburgh.

We're (almost) No. 1 in: Explosive plays. The Chargers have 83 explosive plays this season (running plays of 15-plus yards or passing plays of 20-plus yards). Only the Kansas City Chiefs (86) have more. The Bolts have been so-so on third downs this season, but one of the reasons they are among the league leaders in scoring (sixth overall) is a Philip Rivers-led offense's ability to create chunk plays to make it easier to get into scoring position. -- Eric Williams

The Chargers absolutely got some lucky breaks in this one, no doubt about that. However, they showed something very important in the second half, and that was the ability to overcome adversity against one of the better teams in the league. This was a good start to a crucial December for the Chargers, but there's still a lot of work to be done.

The Chargers made their case as legit Super Bowl contenders, rallying back from 16 points down on the road at Pittsburgh to notch their eighth win in nine games.

I totally agree! I look forward to that ranking each week. I am curious how they will hate from week to week.

Just like listening to Scott Kaplan, which I mad the mistake of for about 5 minutes tonight. The Chargers were given the game by the refs. We were lucky. The Steelers are a better team. Blah, blah, blah.

Actually Walter Football ranked us the highest of any of the top ranking boards prior to the season beginning, then we did a face plant out of the gate and he got butt hurt by the Chargers (us too) and hasn't forgiven us for it ...

Myself I prefer Football Outsiders DVOA because of their more rigorous statistics based model but Walter Football is good too ...
