I watched a lot of random NE plays this season, they struggle whenever they go pass happy, they do well whenever they go back to the Charlie Weis offense mode like when Brady was young (game manager mode, leans on the running game and defense). Remember this, even at this age, Brady is still physically a better QB than when he first getting into this league, and they won then, they still winning now. He was skinny, weak and slower back then. He has past his prime, but a past-his-prime Brady is just the same game manager QB that won them their first couple of SBs.

They're an unreasonable, an illogical team to explain, they won illogical ways. I was in betting business back in 2000s, betting against them some times and then no more, no way in hell. You compare each player from 2 teams, heck you can compare each coach, Mike Martz was hot back then, Tony Dungy was a good coach, good defensive mind, Tom Moore was a great coach.

You really sure that this team, that team should win comfortably against them. No way they can against this, against that. They were so weak, always look so vulnerable, so BEATABLE, always look that way the prior week. I bet a lot of Rams people and fans, Colts people and fans had those feelings. No way in hell this vulnerable team could outlast us, we would just bully them out of the stadium with our pure talents alone. Yet, on Sunday when the game actually start and 11 players against 11 players, you watching the game and you dumbfound and depress and depress and can't understand. You ask why, why? How? How? You can't watch the SB anymore, you go back home and turned on the TV, it's 4th quarter, and the score was 14 - 3 (The Greatest Show on Turf), and you curse, you WTF. Year, that was me. Luckily I didn't bet that much on that game.

The Big Ben embarassment in the 2004, after bullied every teams in the regular season out of their stadium, including NE. The playoff Marty "I made a decision on the parking lot to go for 4th down" game, we were the best team in the league that year, we should win that game by 50 pts, we should easily, comfortably blow them out of water like we did to every team that year. LT on his prime, dominating OL, creative play callings, LT PASS for TDs. It was all fun and easy. NE 2nd best O player was old Troy Borwn, Reche Caldwell. When the game began, I was already annoy, both sides weren't supposed to play that evenly, we should be dominate and outplayed them, we better physically, we run faster, we were bigger, we were stronger, Merriman, Phillips etc. And then they won, again. And you didn't know why or how it happens. A lot of my friends are Patriots haters and they're all come from this, comes from their teams keep getting beat by NE in a stupidly, luckily, fluky kind of ways, it stress you out over time.

It'll be great if we'll be the one who ends the "Patriots mystic", if not their dynasty then at least their run this season.

Honestly a lot of what you describe simply comes down to good coaching. Like it or not, Belicheck is a very, very good coach. Like I said earlier, he is the great equalizer.

I don't think anybody here is taking them lightly. We already saw what happened the last time we faced a "washed up" Patriots team (2006).

But for once we have good coaching on our side, too. Not necessarily from an Xs and Os standpoint, but from the "it" standpoint. Making the hard, gutsy decisions when you have to. And dare I say it we probably have the best defense we've had since the 2006 team. Not as stout against the run but maybe more well rounded overall?

Not so sure I would start out this way. There is tape on this now and Belicheck I'm sure will find a way to try to attack it.

THAT BEING SAID, I read somewhere that the Jets did something similar back in 2011 when they beat the Patriots in Foxboro. The obvious worry is having your small defense get run over. I was a bit surprised the Ravens weren't able to run the ball on us more effectively, their backs averaged less than 3.0 YPC. Our smaller guys were just beating their blockers to their spots and tackling well. You'd think if we could contain the power running game of the Ravens that we'd be able to replicate it against the Patriots but I just worry about Belicheck finding a weakness.

Again, I'm not opposed to using that kind of defense, just maybe not right out of the gates? Especially if the weather is as crappy as it's supposed to be, would lend itself to more of a gritty game and I think we would wear down more easily.

I truly hope Gordon is healthy, this is the perfect game for him to touch the ball 25 times and just grit out a win.

well, we have a lot of LB injuries. This may be our best option. Balt. is a lot more physical team than NE IMO. They only have last weeks tape against a very different offence from which to break down and analyze, so I am not sure that is much of a disadvantage Belichick or no.

Again, I'm not opposed to it.

It's just that this time of year Belicheck pulls out some voodoo and magically transforms his OL into an unstoppable force (+ some help from the refs) and all of a sudden they are the best blocking/rushing team ever. Especially if the weather sucks - although that could go either way as it might give our faster guys an advantage in terms of getting to their spots faster than their blockers can. I just don't know.

I think you may see James play exclusively in the box and cover Gronk as much as possible and/or disrupt anything over the middle like a good MLB would do. Do we trust Rayshawn Jenkins to play FS? I thought he looked pretty good last Sunday.

You might be right that simply injuries alone might make this a better fit. I think I'd rather win/lose with playing our full compliment of DBs rather than watch Pullard and Emanuel get smoked.

GLENDALE, AZ—After defeating the Seattle Seahawks 28-24 Sunday to win his fourth Super Bowl title, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick took a moment to credit the landmark victory to his god. “We’ve had to endure a lot to get to this point, but it just goes to show that all things are made possible through…

                      A couple of thoughts....

                      1) It's no secret what Coach Belichick loves to do when the Patriots are on defense. He's so much as repeated his philosophy in post-game comments. He takes away your best offensive player, which, as things sit right now, IMHO, that player would be Keenan Allen. We'd best get used to that happening on Sunday. of Course, the weather might team up with the Pats, helping out the defense attempting to cover #13. He's going to force the Chargers to utilize the Williams boys and Travis Benjamin in the passing game. (No, I'm not forgetting Hunter Henry. Tell me he's on the field for 25+ snaps, and I'd be pleased.)

                      2) I'll tell ya right now - I LOVE our coaching staff. They're aggressive, innovative, and Well-prepared, which rubs off on the team. EVERYTHING that I needed to see from the brain trust of the Chargers, I got to see near the end of that game against Baltimore. With about one minute left on the game clock, and facing third and 6 for the first down that would have ended the game, the Chargers ran that designed sweep left, and got about ten yards. That was a BEAUTIFUL call, the type of call that wins you football games, when the game hangs in the balance. THAT's how this staff works - they've designed their game plan, and carry it out to the letter. Yes, I know that Okung was called for holding on the play (a questionable call, at best), but all that showed us that the Chargers could punt the ball back to the Ravens, and win the game THAT WAY.

I'll admit it, I'm ancient. (Laugh) I had season seats in SD for 37 years. I live up here near L.A. I'd never give up following the team. Like some of you, I've watched the consistent heartache take place on the field, and on TV. BUT - Anthony Lynn came out with one phrase a week or two ago that summed things up, when asked about the sordid history of the team.. He simply said, "THESE are not THOSE Chargers."

AMEN, Coach Lynn. A-MEN. Yes, I understand the accolades for Coach Belichick, but I'm here to tell you that I think we'll hold our own with our staff versus his in this game. 7 DB's on defense? Worked like a charm, and NEEDED to. We were NOT interested in coughing up another 225 yards-plus on defense with the Ravens' ground game. Gus Bradley came up with a brilliant plan to stop that Edwards / Dixon combo, figuring that we'd force Jackson to beat us on offense. Didn't happen, game-set-match, L.A. I have 100% total faith in our coaching staff to get this job done, whether it snows, rains, or clears. I respect Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, and all those other players that New England has. But I ain't scared. Let's fly out there and beat those Pats. They owe us, and THESE Chargers look to be ready to collect on those old debts.

Playing with hatred energize you more to win. What Belichick and sometimes Brady do during the week is that they talk so much good things about you that it takes the hate away. We're all human being, we can't really hate somebody who says good things about us, being nice to us.

Really hate going into Foxboro at this time, divisional round. Much rather facing other teams. Really hate some fans and medias keep screaming over and over throughout the season that their dynasty is over, that this season is the last of their long ass SB contending runs. All of that stadium will treat this playoff as a "dynasty-defending" kind of thing. PHI has the perfect "no respect" card last year (and this year, too). Fans and medias this season has given the Pats this card, too.
