Draft Depth by position chart - Deep at DL,OL

As suspected this is a deep draft for OL and DL. This is just a rough look of the supply/demand for each position at the top of the draft ( 3 rounds).

What I did was took the top 96 players from the CBS draft rankings https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospect-rankings/ and did a count in Excel to see how many were available at each position ( Column 'Avail') .

Then I took the top 3 needs for each team from this CBS article. (Column 'Need ') https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2...-biggest-needs.

As you can see, OL and DL are in good surplus supply. If Telesco wants a S, it may be better to take one in Rnd 1 and then add an OT and DT later. This is just a rough look ( they don't even differentiate the line positions), but hope it is of interest. It isn't perfect so be kind w any concerns re the methodology lol .

    Pos Avail Need Surplus
    OL 17 8 9
    DL 15 11 4
    WR 14 11 3
    TE 5 4 1
    S 9 9 0
    CB 11 13 -2
    EDGE 9 11 -2
    RB 6 9 -3
    QB 4 8 -4
    LB 6 12 -6

I've never seen that done before so nice creative thinking.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

Nice work, CD. So, should we grab a safety in round 1 when they're still there, then wait until round 2 to go OT, since it's so deep?

Thanks all for the nice comments. It looks that way on paper.

I know in the past what can happen too is teams get later round steals.

that makes sense when you go based on needs and availability/supply & demand, and.... for myself, start w/the players I like and then back track to see where they're slotted/ranked and then make my way from there.

A pick like that can make your draft.

Good job. I feel like TT did something similar in the 2016 draft when he selected Hunter Henry in the 2nd round.
