This seems to be more serious then some of the other proposals. Not sure if it really serious, but better then some of the other crap I hear, although not living anywhere near SD, I don't follow it that closely.

I would think one way to maybe deal with the stadium seating and the track is to simply be able to move some of the stands back away from the sidelines. The LA Colosseum failed with the Raiders in part because the field and the stands were so far apart. The Raiders complained that they didn't feel like they had fans in the stadium at all, because they were so far back, although I suspect it ran deeper than that. But if you could engineer some sort of retractable seating that could roll over the track, then the seating could retract to a new front row (at reduced seating) for events with a track (Olympics only?) and then move forward to allow football games to be played.

But this idea of doubling/tripling up (or more) with other sports and events has to be part of it. You cannot dump a billion dollars into a venue that only gets used a dozen times a year. So the choices are more sports or more daily use of some sort, shopping or restaurants... So that the stadium facilities are used by more people more frequently and you get bang out of the money invested, and more return.

not a chance in hell for either bi-national olympics or a stadium resulting from it.

Fibiani will be trotted out any time now to deny the Chargers have ever been approached about such a stadium and squash any idea they would even accept this option.
