I think the best way for him to showcase himself for a long term contract is in our system. In a division with 2 teams that are not great passing teams. He probably needed a little time to realize it was the perfect opportunity for him. He will be our #1 CB.

I was wondering where my post went
But yea, huge pickup IMO. It gives Verrett and Stevie a year to develop. It provides depth. It's also a no risk contract on the Chargers part with no commitment if he really has declined.
Plenty of money next year as well if they want to resign him.
Win win. I see no downside whatsoever.

Former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Brandon Flowers is staying in the AFC West.
After visiting San Diego last week, Flowers has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Chargers, NFL Media's Albert Breer reported Tuesday, per a team source.
It will be interest to see how much Flowers will earn in 2014. The Bolts pursued him more aggressively than other interested teams as speculation mounted that the veteran cornerback was seeking too much money on the heels of a disappointing season.
Flowers fills a major need in San Diego, where Derek Cox and Richard Marshall flamed out as free-agent acquisitions a year ago.
Although Flowers proved ill-suited for Bob Sutton's press-man scheme in Kansas City, he played at a Pro Bowl level as a shadow corner under Romeo Crennel from 2010-2012. Undersized first-round draft pick Jason Verrett was billed as a prototypical slot cornerback, which should allow Flowers to stay outside -- where he wants to play.
It's rare to find a quality starter on the open market this time of year. The Chargers did well to improve their shaky secondary heading into training camp.
