NFL network had us drafting RB McCaffery

An NFL network GMF analyst had the Chargers drafting RB McCaffrey from Stanford at #7 insisting that Philip Rivers is at his best with it Danny whitehead style player in the backfield and returning punts and kick offs.

I could see us trading back into the teens, picking up a 2nd rounder and maybe doing that, but at #7 would anybody on this board do that ?

Agreed, you don't draft McCaffrey when you've already got Gordon. If we traded back and got lots of picks, maybe. That being said, there's a lot of DB talent all through the 1st and 2nd rounds. We need that more.

I don't get it either, I'm not high on this guy at all, even trading back to # 20 I wouldn't take him, there would be too much talent there to go for McCaffrey

If this is theChargers pick at 7 it means they know the Oline is gonna be a disaster....so they need someone for screens, quick pitches and dump offs
Forget it Donny you're out of your element

Id like that to be Gordon. lol Hes the better runner with the ball in his hands.

If they view McCaffrey as a 90 reception guy who can play outside than the pick isnt terrible.

I think some team scouts view him as a Julian Edelman type. Maybe 100 catches 1200 yards jack of all trades but with a much better RB skillset.

He's more versatile than Woody. The only thing McCaffrey can't do - to my knowledge - is throw the ball. He can return kicks/punts, catch, and run. And at a high level. Every RB list I see has McCaffrey and Fournette 1-2 (either one). Why wouldn't you want that? That is an incredibly versatile offensive player. And for a team without a second running back, poor depth at WR, and crappy returners....why NOT???!!!
          For Stinky-Jon-Wizzleteats....

Yeah im curious to see where teams rank him as a WR. Its possible hes in teams top 5. Smart. Great routes. Great hands. Still...id make Carolina give me a 3rd for him.

For me it comes down to value.....it's a poor return at # 7 with some truly great players possibly available at positions we need like Safety and Edge....Brandon Oliver is our second back he's not too shabby

I could see the Charger PR department wanting football operations to pick a familiar Heisman candidate to make a splash in LA.

Can't we get a decent enough Safety in the 2nd round?

We can. Guess it all depends on TT/Lynn's view of him, what his skill set will be like in the pros, what they think he can contribute. Hell maybe were that team who's just one special guy away from it all.. or that's the perception in Chargerville.

Can't you say the same about a pass catching RB?

You could get Jeremy Nichols in the 3rd round.....and I do think you can get a good safety with the second pick

But to pass on hooker Adams or Solomon Thomas at seven for McCaffrey would be crazy, JMHO.
