Dominican League Padres...

So far we have Maybin, Grandal, Liriano, Asencio, Roach, and Garces in the Dominican league. Grandal is doing very well in 25+ PA's. He's getting on base at a high rate and hitting for power as well while holding the K's to a minimum. Maybin went 4 for 4 today and is hitting .400+ (but it's very early...http://mlb.mlb.com/milb/stats/stats....g_box&sid=l131). Asencio doing okay but no power yet. Liriano only so-so.

Dominican League leading hitters to this point...http://mlb.mlb.com/milb/stats/stats....id=131&t=l_bat. Grandal, Asencio, and Maybin should be on this list after October 25's games. Maybe Liriano too.

Garces only has over an inning so far. Roach is also pitching for a Dominican team...http://www.mlb.com/milb/stats/stats....pbp&pid=543698

Venezuelan League Padres players...

Leonel Campos is also listed on a Venezuelan team this Winter but hasn't pitched yet.

Mexican League Padres...

The Puerto Rican and Australian Leagues don't start until Oct. 30. Don't know if any Padres players will participate in either of those leagues. I'm hoping Mallex Smith will play for one of them. Would love to see him advance quickly through our system. Winter league exposure should only help.

Padres off season players update:

Mallex Smith has two hits in each of his last three Arizona Fall league games. His BA is .333 and his OBP is .424. He also swiped 88 bases in 2014 between Low-A Fort Wayne and High-A Lake Elsinore. This is the guy I want roaming CF for us. But he's not quite ready. He'll probably play in double AA San Antonio in 2015.

Adys Portillo has allowed one run in six relief appearances in Venezuela. He converted to relief pitcher this past season with the San Antonio Double AA Missions. Walks are still an issue with this guy. Five walks allowed in 7.1 innings so far.

Trea Turner has four stolen bases in four attempts in the AFL. Turner is on the taxi-squad so he can only play two days a week.

Jace Peterson has five stolen bases in six attempts in the AFL. Another good thing about Peterson is he has more walks than K's so far in the AFL (9 to 7).
