Kennedy has been absolute garbage. This vaunted pitching staff has been garbage.

Matt Kemp is turning into a bad joke. No wonder the Dodgers paid for him to split.

I know there is still time to turn this around and we're only 6.5 games out but we could be on the brink of getting out of things really quickly if we don't get it together. I don't get how the Padres manage to get themselves into the same situation every year despite a changing cast of characters. This business of sucking the first half, getting yourself hopelessly out of things and then furiously finishing to get 5 games out is getting old. A lot of money being spent to be 23-26.

All that said, Upton is a superstar who needs to be re-signed at any cost. Myers has looked very good (if he can stay healthy). Shields is a perfect fit in Petco. And Norris is awesome...would love to see us get him to first base and for Hedges to hit enough to take over catcher.

I don't have any data on this subject, but I used to think Black switched his batting order so much bc his personnel was so bad that he was looking for anything to get them going. But it's anti-science to make changes almost daily like this, and I think it kind of fucks with the batters. Norris one day is expected to take a lot of pitches and get on base. The next day he's supposed to hit for power and drive in runs. He seems to be fine in either role, but not everyone is. I think you have to ride some lineups for awhile otherwise you're basing decisions off of SSS and you never really learn what works or what doesn't. Even worse, you change two variables at once and you have no idea why it worked or didn't.
