Former Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon had a shaky relationship with the organization as their time together was nearing an end last season. Gordon held out into the season for a new contract, something the Chargers’ brass was not willing to give him. It led to a strained relationship and his departure in free agency. Now a member of the division-rival Denver Broncos, Gordon took time out of his introductory press conference on Friday to shade Chargers fans in a big way. Gordon is not wrong. Attendance was an issue for the Chargers long before their relocation from San Diego to Los Angeles. It has taken a more ugly turn since. Forced to play at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson from 2017-19, a majority of Chargers home games felt like road dates. Fans of opposing teams packed the smallish venue. Whether that’s going to be the case as the Chargers move into a state-of-the-art Southern California venue next season remains to be seen. For now, Gordon has a fair point.
