Gary Andersen is done as the head football coach at Oregon State, both sides announced on Monday.The sides said the decision was mutual even though Andersen had four years left on his contract. Assistant Cory Hall will take over the team on an interim basis.Andersen’s tenure as Beavers head coach was nothing short of a disaster. He went 7-23 in his two-plus seasons, and Oregon State became by far the worst program in the Pac-12 under his watch.Though Oregon State was terrible in the ’80s and much of the ’90s, Dennis Erickson and then Mike Riley turned the Beavers into a successful program that put players in the NFL and regularly made bowl games. Andersen didn’t come close to continuing that.Andersen went 19-7 in two seasons at Wisconsin before leaving for Oregon State, making his struggles in the Pac-12 even more confounding. He had success at Utah State prior to joining Wisconsin.
