A series of Notre Dame mistakes and an incredible catch by Clemson receiver Tee Higgins has the Tigers well-positioned at halftime to reach the final of the College Football Playoff. Shaky prevent defense allowed Clemson to put together a 34-yard pass late in the first half, and a dumb roughing-the-passer call on the play gave the Tigers another 15 yards. That allowed Clemson to take a shot, and quarterback Trevor Lawrence connected with Higgins for what may end up being the catch of the day. The touchdown was upheld on review and may be a backbreaker for Notre Dame. It put them behind 23-3 at the half when they should have prevented the Tigers from scoring again before the half. It’s been a combination of bad play and bad luck, but the Irish have a long way back now.
