Initial reports indicate that Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s hip injury is every bit as severe as it initially looked. According to Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy, Tagovailoa suffered a hip fracture and will undergo surgery within the next 24 hours. With little information available, it’s too soon to speculate on potential long-term impacts to Tagovailoa’s career. If true, however, such a surgery would almost certainly mean the end of his 2019 season and would raise serious questions about his health ahead of next April’s NFL draft. Tagovailoa was screaming in pain on the field as he was carted off due to the injury, indicating that this was clearly more significant than the ankle issue he suffered a few weeks back. It certainly seems to be a very real possibility that we won’t see him playing for Alabama again this season, and perhaps ever.
