Greg Schiano appeared to be in line to become the next head football coach at Rutgers as soon as the school fired Chris Ash in September, but the deal may now be dead. Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports reported on Sunday that Schiano and Rutgers were unable to come to an agreement for a reunion. According to NJ.com, Rutgers has been exploring potential backup options in case they could not come to an agreement with Schiano. Two candidates being considered are Michigan linebackers coach Anthony Campanile and Los Angeles Rams assistant coordinator for offense Jedd Fisch. Both are from New Jersey. There was a point recently when Schiano was supposedly on the verge of being announced as Rutgers’ coach, but he reportedly had some very lofty demands in negotiations. It’s possible the two sides could still hammer out a deal, but it sounds like they have hit more than a minor snag. Schiano enjoyed great success as the coach at Rutgers from 2001-2011.
