Chargers
Isaiah Simmons
LB, Clemson
I think the Los Angeles Chargers’ linebacker room isn’t their biggest problem. They need offensive line help pretty bad, and healthy young players at cornerback would be welcome as well. With the continued quality play of Drue Tranquill and young, growing talents like Kyzir White, the Chargers could easily go elsewhere in Round 1.
But Isaiah Simmons is the image of the player the Chargers have been building this defense around. He is the archetype: the ultimate move piece that can be placed at any position on the defense that doesn't put its hand in the dirt. He allows Tranquill to move to a permanent MIKE role in the future, helps cover bigger slot receivers as well as tight ends and generally makes plays as he has for years with the Tigers.
He just feels like a Charger.

While they weren't all his fault, Jameis Winston threw five interceptions in a divisional loss to the Panthers in London on Sunday, and they came during a game in which the former No. 1 overall threw for exactly 400 yards.
In a way, the 36-27 loss encapsulated the Winston era in Tampa Bay. Lots of passing yards, porous defense, too many sacks and too many turnovers.
Right now, the Buccaneers have to be thinking quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The draft order below is based on records and strength of schedule. Position rankings are based on my Top 32 Big Board.
Now, to the picks.
NFL Mock Draft
Round 1
Round 1 - Pick 1
Justin Herbert QB
Oregon • Sr • 6'6" / 237 lbs
Same pairing as a week ago. Too perfect. Herbert has learned how to limit mistakes but still flashes a few ridiculous throws each game.Projected Team
CincinnatiPROSPECT RNK
7thPOSITION RNK
2ndRound 1 - Pick 2
Tua Tagovailoa QB
Alabama • Jr • 6'1" / 218 lbs
After "winning" the tank bowl, the Dolphins are positioned to land one of the first two picks. In this scenario, quarterbacks go No. 1 and No. 2 for the first time since Jared Goff and Carson Wentz in 2016. Tagovailoa doesn't have a big arm but is accurate from inside the pocket and showed against Texas A&M that he can make big plays off-script.Projected Team
MiamiPROSPECT RNK
3rdPOSITION RNK
1stRound 1 - Pick 3
Andrew Thomas OL
Georgia • Jr • 6'5" / 320 lbs
I seriously doubt Trent Williams plays for the Redskins again, meaning they need to address left tackle. Thomas has emerged as the most likely first offensive linemen off the board.Projected Team
WashingtonPROSPECT RNK
8thPOSITION RNK
1stRound 1 - Pick 4
Jeff Okudah CB
Ohio State • Jr • 6'1" / 200 lbs
The Falcons defense is an utter disaster right now, meaning they'll be glad to go with an elite defensive prospect in Okudah.Projected Team
AtlantaPROSPECT RNK
1stPOSITION RNK
1stRound 1 - Pick 5
Jerry Jeudy WR
Alabama • Jr • 6'1" / 192 lbs
The Jets have gotten quality contributions from some lesser-known players on defense this season. The offense needs a boost. Jeudy can give them that.Projected Team
N.Y. JetsPROSPECT RNK
9thPOSITION RNK
1stRound 1 - Pick 6
Chase Young EDGE
Ohio State • Jr • 6'5" / 265 lbs
Young is far and away the best edge rusher in the class, and the Jaguars would love to pair him with Josh Allen on the outside of their defense.Projected Team
JacksonvillePROSPECT RNK
22ndPOSITION RNK
1stRound 1 - Pick 7
Tristan Wirfs OL
Iowa • Jr • 6'5" / 322 lbs
Cleveland's offensive line is porous. Wirfs can play either tackle spot or maul at guard. Easy pick here.Projected Team
ClevelandPROSPECT RNK
12thPOSITION RNK
2ndRound 1 - Pick 8
A.J. Epenesa EDGE
Iowa • Jr • 6'6" / 280 lbs
Back-to-back Hawkeyes inside the top 10. The Dolphins edge-rusher group needs a full-blown makeover. Epenesa is a large, powerful, refined defensive end prospect.Projected Team
MiamiPROSPECT RNK
21stPOSITION RNK
2ndRound 1 - Pick 9
Kristian Fulton CB
LSU • Sr • 6'0" / 200 lbs
The Giants have shown signs of life on offense with Daniel Jones on the field. But the defense has been average at best. Fulton is a twitchy corner with lockdown tendencies.Projected Team
N.Y. GiantsPROSPECT RNK
6thPOSITION RNK

Round 1 - Pick 10
Joe Burrow QB
LSU • Sr • 6'4" / 216 lbs
While this selection would not signal an immediate end to the Philip Rivers era, the Chargers do need to plan ahead at the quarterback spot. Burrow would be in line to sit behind Rivers for all of 2020.Projected Team
L.A. ChargersPROSPECT RNK
NRPOSITION RNK
NR
Round 1 - Pick 11
Jacob Eason QB
Washington • Jr • 6'6" / 227 lbs
If the Titans want a change in quarterback style from Marcus Mariota, look no further than Eason, a strong-armed gunslinger.Projected Team
TennesseePROSPECT RNK
NRPOSITION RNK
NRRound 1 - Pick 12
Tee Higgins WR
Clemson • Jr • 6'4" / 215 lbs
The Broncos have started to see the potential in big, athletic, second-year wideout Courtland Sutton, so they add a similar type pass catcher in Higgins to bolster the receiver group.Projected Team
DenverPROSPECT RNK
10thPOSITION RNK
2ndRound 1 - Pick 13
Jordan Love QB
Utah State • Jr • 6'4" / 225 lbs
His film is a roller-coaster, but Love can make outrageous throws from unique platforms and arm angles. The Buccaneers can't extend Jameis Winston at this point, and Bruce Arians is primed to be in a weird spot next season. Quarterback has to be the pick here for Tampa.Projected Team
Tampa BayPROSPECT RNK
NRPOSITION RNK
NRRound 1 - Pick 14
Javon Kinlaw DL
South Carolina • Sr • 6'6" / 310 lbs
With Kinlaw and 2019 third-round pick Zach Allen, the Cardinals would have two, young, versatile defensive linemen who can thrive anywhere up front. Time to start building the defense, Kliff.Projected Team
ArizonaPROSPECT RNK
5thPOSITION RNK
1stRound 1 - Pick 15
Neville Gallimore DL
Oklahoma • Sr • 6'2" / 302 lbs
The one piece the Cowboys defense is clearly missing? A penetrating defensive tackle with power, and that is the one-sentence scouting report on Gallimore.Projected Team
DallasPROSPECT RNK
15thPOSITION RNK
2ndRound 1 - Pick 16
Mekhi Becton OL
Louisville • Jr • 6'7" / 369 lbs
The Rams offensive line has taken a clear step back in 2019. Jared Goff under pressure can occasionally be no bueno. Becton is a towering, super-strong tackle prospect.Projected Team
L.A. RamsPROSPECT RNK
19thPOSITION RNK
3rdRound 1 - Pick 17
Lamar Jackson CB
Nebraska • Sr • 6'3" / 215 lbs
The Colts seem to know their identity on offense but have to find the right pieces on the other side of the ball. How about another long cornerback in Indianapolis?Projected Team
IndianapolisPROSPECT RNK
18thPOSITION RNK
4thFrom Chicago Bears
Round 1 - Pick 18
Isaiah Simmons S
Clemson • Jr • 6'4" / 230 lbs
Unit-changing pick here for the Raiders. Simmons can cover, get to the back on outside runs, and blitz better than any linebacker in the country.Projected Team
OaklandPROSPECT RNK
4thPOSITION RNK
1stRound 1 - Pick 19
CeeDee Lamb WR
Oklahoma • Jr • 6'2" / 189 lbs
The Lions have to get younger at the receiver spot. Lamb does everything well, and for a bigger wideout, he's amazing after the catch.Projected Team
DetroitPROSPECT RNK
13thPOSITION RNK
3rdRound 1 - Pick 20
Henry Ruggs III WR
Alabama • Jr • 6'0" / 190 lbs
With Ruggs, Curtis Samuel, and D.J. Moore, the Panthers would boast the most dangerous combination of youth and athleticism at the receiver spot in the NFL.Projected Team
CarolinaPROSPECT RNK
16thPOSITION RNK
4thRound 1 - Pick 21
Kenneth Murray LB
Oklahoma • Jr • 6'2" / 234 lbs
Murray absolutely flies. He gets to the sideline as fast as any linebacker I've recently scouted. I mean that.Projected Team
PhiladelphiaPROSPECT RNK
NRPOSITION RNK
NRRound 1 - Pick 22
Laviska Shenault Jr. WR
Colorado • Jr • 6'2" / 220 lbs
Shenault is a large, YAC-monster with impressive speed and would round out the Raiders receiver group nicely.Projected Team
OaklandPROSPECT RNK
20thPOSITION RNK
5thRound 1 - Pick 23
K'Lavon Chaisson EDGE
LSU • Soph • 6'4" / 250 lbs
Chassion is 250 pounds, and I don't think he has too much flab on his frame. He's as twitchy as they come and can convert speed to power.Projected Team
BaltimorePROSPECT RNK
NRPOSITION RNK
NRRound 1 - Pick 24
Calvin Throckmorton OL
Oregon • Sr • 6'5" / 309 lbs
Everyone in Minnesota loves Kirk Cousins again! Yay! So, for the time being, I'm mocking a heady, versatile offensive lineman to the Vikings.Projected Team
MinnesotaPROSPECT RNK
NRPOSITION RNK
NRFrom Houston Texans
Round 1 - Pick 25

Three weeks in a row. Love the high upside of Smith on a team at the ground floor of its rebuilding process.Projected Team
MiamiPROSPECT RNK
NRPOSITION RNK
NRRound 1 - Pick 26
Carlos Basham Jr. DL
Wake Forest • Jr • 6'5" / 275 lbs
The Bills add to their sturdy defense with Basham, a low center of gravity edge rusher with power and a high motor.Projected Team
BuffaloPROSPECT RNK
23rdPOSITION RNK
3rdRound 1 - Pick 27
Jalen Reagor WR
TCU • Jr • 5'11" / 195 lbs
The Packers finally use a first-round pick on offense and give Aaron Rodgers a talented, explosive wideout in Reagor.Projected Team
Green BayPROSPECT RNK
26thPOSITION RNK
6thRound 1 - Pick 28
Alex Leatherwood OL
Alabama • Jr • 6'6" / 310 lbs
The Seahawks have to try to better protect Russell Wilson despite his otherworldly improvisational skills.Projected Team
SeattlePROSPECT RNK
NRPOSITION RNK
NRRound 1 - Pick 29
CJ Henderson CB
Florida • Jr • 6'1" / 202 lbs
More defense for the Chiefs. It's a necessity with the way teams are going to try to play keepaway from Patrick Mahomes and Co.Projected Team
Kansas CityPROSPECT RNK
NRPOSITION RNK
NRRound 1 - Pick 30
Tyler Johnson WR
Minnesota • Sr • 6'2" / 205 lbs
Johnson is a savvy yards-after-the-catch receiver who'd work wonders with Sean Payton in New Orleans.Projected Team
New OrleansPROSPECT RNK
NRPOSITION RNK
NRRound 1 - Pick 31
Jacob Breeland TE
Oregon • Sr • 6'5" / 250 lbs
More tight ends in San Francisco! You know Kyle Shanahan would love it. Breeland is athletic and has shown his receiving chops in 2019.Projected Team
San FranciscoPROSPECT RNK
NRPOSITION RNK
NRRound 1 - Pick 32
Grant Delpit S
LSU • Jr • 6'3" / 203 lbs
Delpit is a nasty run defender with outstanding athleticism and size for the safety spot. Bill Belichick will love his versatility close to the line of scrimmage and as a robber safety.Projected Team

Star linebackers take away drag routes over the middle, which are huge in Patriots/chiefs arsenals.
he's also an elite blitzer, a skill which even bradley might use.Last edited by powderblueboy; 12-14-2019, 11:39 AM.

Pro Football Focus, The Powder Blues favorite pundits, are saying that Jordan Elliott, Javon Kinlaw and Marvin Wilson are every bit as good as Derrick Brown as DTs.
I can live with Simmons LB or Trevon Diggs CB or even AJ Epenesa DL.
One more elite piece for our defense would be grand.Last edited by wu-dai clan; 12-14-2019, 03:06 PM.We do not play modern football.

I figure we are picking top 16, so here is my big board....biased towards the type of players I think the Chargers can use the most. No WR or RB...can get later. After Leatherwood, the next 5 or 6 OTs are so close in talent level as to be indistinguishable...and a few will be available when we pick in the second round.
1. Joe Burrow QB: Do I have to spell it out? Will be gone
2. Chase Young DE: Generational talent.
3. Andrew Thomas OT: Lead pipe Lock at LT for any francise
4. Tristan Wirfs OT: Possibly my favorite prospect, and maybe the best Charger fit this year.
5. Derrick Brown DT: Would complete the overhaul of the dline.
6. Jedrick Wills OT: Immediate RT plug in/upgrade
7. I. Simmons LB: Yea...wasn't looking for a LB this early, but this guy is amazing...all pro potential who can play multiple spots, and blitz like crazy... Yes, please...
8. Tua Tagovailoa QB: Risky...but there may be too much potential there to pass up...and he will have plenty of time to heal 100% while learning under Rivers.
9. Jeffrey Okuda CB: CB is so important, and this one is too talented to pass up for the likes of Leatherwood
10. Alex Leatherwood OT: May be a little overrated...but such a need. He would hopefully give us a much needed boost in Oline talent.
11. Grant Delpit S: This guy paired with James? Forget about Adderley...he can play CB or provide depth...Delpit is the FS you want.
12. Justin Herbert QB: We might be looking for the next guy...if he nails the process, you gotta consider taking him...and what he could learn a year or two behind Rivers.
13. Kristian Fulton CB: Would be a solid addition to our secondary...can never have too many good DBs.
14. Javon Kinlaw DT: Not the anchor Brown is, but still can handle 2 gapping, and very disruptive as an interior pass rusher.
15. Dylan Moses LB: Another impact LB who would round out our young corps...can't pass him up
16. Tyler Biadasz C/OG: Too talented to pass up...if Pouncey comes back, plug him in at guard for an upgrade.
The TPB makes plans....
And Jim Harbaugh laughs...

Just an FYI:
Due to tiebreakers, strength of schedule, etc......
The highest draft position Chargers can get by losing last 2 games is 7th or 8th..... we are currently at 9th and most of the teams above us will likely lose one or 2 of remaining games also. We are currently drafting 9th...... winning both games drops us to around 13th to 16th......
no matter what happens, CIN and MIA will draft ahead of us so we will have no shot at Burrow or Tua unless we trade up for them...... Giants will take the DE from Ohio state.... so if we win out or lose out it makes zero difference as far as drafting a top QB.....

Whether we keep Rivers for one more year via franchise tag or a 2 year meant to be one year contract, we need to draft the QB of future this year if possible...... and if we believe Burrow or Tua are special QB's who can lead the franchise into the future...... Hurts is a Jackson type of running/throw to open guys type of QB.... but they won't have long careers and defense will learn how to defend them....
Good thing about this draft, is if a great QB is not available, or we cannot work a deal to trade up for them, then at least there appears to be multiple OT's worth drafting, though drafting one from Bama scares me because of how (not great) Fluker was..... and as you listed there are some great defenders that could greatly help our defense.....
Even though our defense was not great to bad this year, clearly our biggest problem was our offense that only averaged less than 20 points per game which is unacceptable in today's NFL..... Our OL needs a complete rebuild, we need speed at WR and TE and size and speed at RB (notice that every viking RB was quick, strong and broke lots off tackles?, ....Jackson and Ekler are elusive but not powerful) .....I love Rivers and he has had a great career, but he is nearing the end and even he has to know it.... with protection, he could play and win for at least a couple more years... but without protection he its getting the crap beaten out of him.
Needs:
QB -pocket QB with elusive mobility to extend plays....(only a great franchise type...no taking flyers on iffy scrubs)
OT (2)
OG
DT
LB
CB
WR - speed burners
RB - power backs
TE - someone with speed who can catch
