Chiefs Ship 1st Rounder, 3 Other Picks To Ravens for Orlando Brown + Picks

The Kansas City Chiefs are trading their first-round pick in Thursday night's NFL draft, along with three other picks in the 2021 and 2022 drafts, to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for Pro Bowl offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr. and one pick in the 2021 draft and another in 2022, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The full trade, sources told Schefter:

    Kansas City gets: Brown, a 2021 second-round pick (No. 58) and a 2022 sixth-round pick

    Baltimore gets: a 2021 first-round pick (No. 31), a third-round pick (No. 94), a fourth-round pick (No. 136) and a 2022 fifth-round pick

With the deal, Kansas City continues to shuffle its offensive line this offseason, having already signed center Austin Blythe and guards Joe Thuney and Kyle Long during free agency. They also expect to have guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and tackle Lucas Niang back this season after they were COVID-19 opt-outs in 2020.

Brown will be another significant boost. He is one of four offensive tackles selected to the Pro Bowl in each of the last two seasons, along with David Bakhtiari, Terron Armstead and Laremy Tunsil. And according to ESPN Pass Block metrics powered by NFL Next Gen stats, he has a pass block win rate of 91.3% over the last two seasons, 12th among all offensive tackles.

The price tag was expected, essentially just under a first round pick. Surprised KC was not willing to pay Fisher given what they had to give up in draft picks, and the upcoming contract that he will demand to protect Mahomes. Probably means Fisher's injury is worse than it appears on the surface. Also means 1 more OT available with our second round pick if we don't take one with our 1st.

From our perspective this is a mild win as KC is going to have to another massive contract to deal with, probably meaning they will have to let some other talent go for greener pastures in future.

More than I would have wanted to pay to get him, especially with him scheduled to be a FA after this season. Will be interested to see if he looks as good in a pass heavy offense as he did in the Ravens run heavy offense.

They paid much less than a first rounder... got a steal..... Brown and a 2nd round pick in this draft for the second to last pick in first round which is essentially a second rounder anyway.....

          Ravens received #31, #94, #136 - 1st, 3rd, & 4th plus a 2022 5th.
Chiefs received Z2 (only 1 yr left on contract), #58 (only have #63) in top 140 picks, and 2022 6th.

By your logic #58 is basically just a 3rd rounder.
So who got the better deal?

For a player on the last year of their contract that hasn’t spent a full season at LT, that’s not a steal in my opinion. Would I trade that to move up and get Sewell for the next 5 years? Sure. But giving up all that draft capital for a player that best case you’re having to pay premier LT money in a year? Not for me. Especially when there are a lot of potential LTs they could take at 31.

They filled another hole in their offensive line and still have two second rounders. We all saw what happened in the Superbowl... Basically Mahomes running for his life!

Brown will probably get exposed some in KC's offense. He is a good pass blocker, but it helps that he almost always has a TE outside of him, and that the guys playing opposite him can't just fly upfield. Jackson is not a QB you want to rush hard and get out of your lane against. Add in the Balt O is not getting them set up in a lot of obvious passing situations, and when they do throw, it is mostly off play action. All those things help an OT look better than he is. I'm not saying he is a bad pass blocker, just maybe not the 12th best, because his stats are biased by the Baltimore O.

KC however, he is going to have to protect a LOT. THey throw way more than Baltimore did, and Kelcie gets split into the flex TE spot, or in the slot, giving edge players as more direct rush lane to the QB. And KC really is not afraid to get into 3rd and long, because they have the speed to overcome, but that leaves the pass blockers in position where the rushers can tee off and just get upfield. They also know that the game is going to be high scoring, so while you don't want Mahomes to have free shots to run on every play, edge guys will take their shots and charge upfield more than they would in a closer game vs Baltimore.

There's a lot to be learned from Tampa Bay's scheme. The season can't get here soon enough.

This isn't a good news for us. Unless they overpay him, I can't see this being good for us.
