The only team in baseball with a better record since April 23 is the Cardinals (the Padres, Pirates and Reds are all 31-20). That's not a small sample. Watch these guys. Also, what if they make the playoffs by one game? Will Venable could do nothing the rest of the year and still be a hero. That catch Monday night -- well, Tuesday morning for most of the country -- was absurd.

Pads will have some decisions to make here soon. Role players have stepped up BIG in the absence of Cabrera and Gyrko. Good, but tough position to be in.

TODAYS GAME: Pads bullpen got roughed up a bit the last two games v SF and tonight Street gives up a booomb to left center and another 2 hard hit balls. He is leaving the damn ball up. Street has a ton of MLB saves, but most of them are scares!

Any win vs the NL West (especially the doyers) is a fantastic win.

Street is Heath Bell reincarnated. I never feel safe when he's out there.

I really hope they go after a big league arm in a trade. I think this team can make some noise and take the NL west this season. It's ripe for the picking.

I was always a Padres Homer growing up, but last few years I have had a hard time watching MLB in general due to the games economics. It is good to see the Padres doing so well, I haven't paid much attention this year. Looks like it might be worth it again.

Agreed! It's hard to get too excited when the deck is stacked against your team. If the playing field is level and the padres suck, that's one thing. But they have to have everything go right to even have a shot. It's like sitting down to play poker with $100 and the guy across the table has $10,000.

Two descent games v los doyers thus far. Stauffer stepped up huge yesterday after Richards went down 2 pitches into the game.

The role players (Forsyth & Ciriaco) have stepped up huge. Quentin is back in the lineup today and its vs that VJ Grienke.

Hopefully Richards injury is minor and even more importantly I hope Pads front office guys are finding some loose change sitting around @ Padres HQ to acquire a mid range or frontline arm to rent for the remainder of the season.

1st base ump blows two calls in one inning giving the dodgers a run: Volquez however still has a no-no...

Damn ump has ill mans disease.

I just feel a sense of dread whenever Street comes into the game. Feels like it used to when Randy Myers would come in from the pen.

Myers wasn't the "closer", but ya. Street sucks right now.
