Under this season's rules, each week each team can "protect" four practice squad players, who then can't be poached until after that week's game, when the protection ends.
But as you say, even if they're not protected, the Chargers would have to sign another team's practice squad player to the Chargers' active roster, and they're probably not going to do that for players they already cut.

Teams make early and mid-season moves all the time to bolster weak spots. Unless you're Mr. We have enough depth Anthony Lynn

Broughton has only played a couple of games this year. Need to see more of him to know his goods and bads. So I'll reserve judgement of him.

Broughton is young. He can still improve. Besides, Telesco is very good on giving 7th rounders a chance. It's something he can use on his GM resume.

We don't want to spend that money this early...let's see how the season progresses...if we blow some money every time we get thin, adding a second rate guy to the roster, that's money we can't spend on our good players in future contracts...
We don't know what we have here yet...as the season wears on, and we find ourselves in the mix, and we suddenly get thin at a position, that's when you would break open the piggy bank...maybe.
This rash of injuries is devastating, true...but even if we go 1-4, the season is far from lost, if we get healthy, and some of these youngins get well tempered under fire...let's not panic and bring in dead end players that will only hamper us developing this young team...one of the five youngest in the league, I believe...and now even younger with all the vets that have gone down. The TPB makes plans....
And Jim Harbaugh laughs...

We seem to want to emhasize having a good pass rushing DT (thus Tillery), but I have never had an issue with having two big DTs that absolutely clog the middle on running plays and collapse the pocket on passing plays, giving the QB less room to escape from good pass rushing DEs.
We have certainly seen what it looks like to have Rivers have one hand on an interior OL player that has been bashed back into him while trying to throw the ball at the same time. It seems like it does not work as well for the QB.Last edited by Guest; 10-07-2020, 03:31 PM.

No....we won't be panic spending.
....which is a rental. Not like we need to give them 3 mil signing bonuses.
One year deals and their salary is off the books going into the next off-season.
Agree, we don't need to run out and sign someone everytime we have an injury. They will if they feel what we have isn't as good or they aren't ready.
