Except in overtime. Our play calling in overtime situations has been horrendous.

Herbert may well look like the second coming of a 1983 Dan Marino for the next month.
I don't know if I would want to become the second coming of Dan Marino being that he never won a superbowl. I would rather be the second coming of Joe Montana. On a serious note though the way that Herbert throws and Marino throws are pretty much the same I think. Marino was very good at side arm throwing it to and had probably the fastest release of any QB i have ever seen. If there is one thing Herbert needs to work on is getting his release out faster.

Herbert was mentioned quite a bit on Bay Area radio today as Niner Nation throws Jimmy under the bus.

If Rivers was in his prime and we didn't need a QB I would have been all for drafting Isiah Simmons. Having Bosa, Simmons and Derwin James on the field at the same time would give any offense nightmares. As good as that sounds I honestly believe the game is won in the trenches. Both on offense and defense. If we can shore up both Offensive and Defensive lines this team can be scary good.

Oregon is tied for second among all college programs, for most QB's produced that went on to be HoF NFL QBs.
(Alabama is in sole possession of first place in that bizarre statistic.)

Philip Rivers and his fast delivery as well as his physical limitations remind me more of Dan Marino.

I can't really think of anyone to compare Justin Herbert with at the moment. His physical traits just don't match up with anyone I've ever seen.

His demeanor and coolness is definitely Montana-esque. Even though we didn't win the game, that bomb to Mike Williams for the FG attempt was absolutely clutch.

I think we also have to give a lot of credit to Shane Steichen for his play calling and offensive philosophy. I know he is a Norv Turner disciple and many see that as a negative but let's not forget that Norv won several super bowls calling plays for the cowboys.

I also think this philosophy matches up very well with Justin Herbert's rocket arm.
