As Bolt-O suggests, our best D line ever. And Leroy was very much a part of that.
    RIP Freddy D.

68 is still relatively young, so I suppose he had other issues.
Fred was a cigarette smoker when he played for SD. May not have quit soon enough.
I liked him a lot. Quick & strong, he didn't need to run far to nail QBs.

I attended several training practices when Fred Dean was a rookie, he had long arms that were like two logs. Talk about natural strength! They toyed with moving him to LB but he was lost at that position. I judge him to be the best DE the team ever had!

              Better than Leslie O'Neal ?

                Both should be in HOF

I admit that I thought of O'Neal when I typed that - they were pretty equal. However, I do give Fred the nod because he was nearly impossible to run sweeps against. Wish we had two like them now. What about Earl Faison?

Do you think Joey stacks up to them?

I think Earl Faison was great but his career was cut short by a terrible knee injury. If he had a normal length of a career he would have been the best

                      It's too early on Joey.
                      Ernie was so disruptive.
                      I think you are right.
Fred Dean is the best Dlineman we've ever had.

Actually I meant Faison - Ernie was a DT - when they were playing side by side the defense was fierce
