    Fred Dean Passes from Covid

As I recall Fred was drafted the same year as Gary "big hands" Johnson. He was a terror to opposing QBs. I think one of the first low body fat defensive ends. Seem to remember something like 9%body fat.

RIP to a genuine stud and terror on the defensive line.

We all know stupid Charger management didn't begin with the Spanos family. Gene Klein
wouldn't pay him, but SF would; goodbye to any legit shot at the Super Bowl beginning with
        his trade.

He was a true Charger legend...

R.I.P. Fred Dean. That DL with Dean, Kelcher, Johnson, and Leroy Jones was the best ever for the Chargers, and Fred Dean (and other Charger cast offs) made it big with the Niners.

68 is still relatively young, so I suppose he had other issues.

Klein gave us one of our trademarks... Air Coryell.... Spanos gave us Leaf and a SB... which was a total embarrassment....

Sad to hear that. I know I still have football cards of him somewhere.

                  Dean-fence.

says it all. One man wrecking crew but had great partners on the line. Probably my favorite era of Chargers football was those early Coryell years. He famously said his brother who was a truck driver made more money than him and the chargers shipped him to SF where he won titles. We weren’t the same after he left.

So they made bad personnel moves even then? That was before my time. RIP Fred Dean

Being around 8 at the time, I didn't understand the significance of that move then, but it probably cost us a title.
