Herbert Earned Right To Go After Record

Anthony Lynn should be thanking JH for even having a shot at returning to coach the Chargers next year. With the game having zero meaning going, no playoff chances and a better draft pick with a loss. It is time to take the leash off and let him have one game where he shows the total package. Screens and slants running game with a couple forward lateral draws. Play action roll outs (3 or 4), a bootleg or two which we underutilize . A RPO where JH keeps it, another seldom used play where he can take advantage. And pass pass pass.

All that being said he should have a strong shot at 341yds passing and give the fanbase something to hang our hat on and a building block for the team going forward with an unquestioned field general going into the future.

Herbert will go off with 200 yards in the first half only to be stifled by the play calling for more runs in the second half. That’s Lynn in a nutshell

10 of the last 12 offensive play calls (not including the kneel-downs) were runs.

Sums up Lynn as a head coach.

If Guyton could catch he might have had it.

All QBs have passes dropped from time to time. The issue is that Lynn went conservative at the end of the game and never gave Herbert a chance to get the record. He should have known that he only needed 39 yards. He could have controlled the clock through the air instead of the running game.

Team should never play for records but aim for them. Winning is all that should matter. Herbert still showed he is the best rookie qb ever so need to stress over one little record.

Herbert came up short but did it in one less game than Luck.

It is more than just letting Herbert get the record.

Sometimes the rest of the team takes satisfaction in the fact that they may not have accomplished wins and team goals, but that Herbert's success was something they could contribute too.

It would have been nice for everyone. Lynn was more excited to talk about going 4-0 during final quarter. I've never seen any publication post quarter standings, tired of hearing coaches talk about what suits their situation. Chargers finished 7-9, disappointing anyway you look at it.

It is like a team down 30 pts going into the fourth quarter and bragging about putting up a couple td's during garbage time. Still lost the game.

It was a selfish decision by Lynn imo, disguised as football virtue
