Edit: Just an example but what if Slater’s agent wanted him to be paid more than some of the draft picks ahead of him?
Pretty sure the NFL slots first round picks now so its not like Slater can get paid what the 11th or 12th pick makes. Its about the slot and guarantees. Pretty easy deal - my guess it will be done and he will be signed by Day 1

It could just be that Slater is training in Texas and doesn’t see the need to fly to LA just to sign his contract when he will be back for TC anyway? The money is done through slotting now, I think the only thing that agents can really argue anymore is if the money is offset should they player be cut and signed by another team. This was the issue with Bosa, his agent wanted him paid out by the Chargers regardless and the Bolts never agree to that language in the rookie contracts.

No, I'm pretty sure it's more likely having to do with my alligator arms theory....

Bosa's issue was not the offset language...... it was that Spanos wanted to pay him only half of his signing bonus immediately and delay the second half of his signing bonus till the following year..... all the other top 5 picks got their signing bonus's paid up front..... so even though the slotted numbers are fixed, the only thing Spanos (being cheap as he is) could try was delay payment.....Bosa's agent brought up the offset language purely as something to concede to give Spanos the feeling he won if spanos would do the right thing and agree to treat Bosa like the other high first rounders and pay him his bonus up front........Spanos finally agreed to pay Bosa his bonus and Bosa agreed to drop the offset language (that he did not care about anyway)(great players dont need offset language because great players dont get cut until their talent diminishes).....but that stupid cheap delay by Spanos probably caused Bosa's injury.....

the slotting determines only the total value of the rookie contract, but not the way it is paid out....... that still gives cheap owners details that they can argue over...... lol

It was both that and the offset language. Part of the problem was that the Jags constantly picked in the top 5, and had both in their contracts for their rookies. So CAA tried to play hard ball with the Chargers. They’re not the only team that hates dealing with CAA. If you’ve noticed, once the rookie draft slots were adopted in the CBA, the only rookie the Chargers had issue signing was Joey.

It will be interesting to see if the Spani try to weasel out of paying the full signing bonus for Slater...

Time for a $1 a month house rental in Newport beach or Malibu?!?!?! until he can resign a new contract 3 years from now. LOL!

Doubt it has anything to do with that.
