Hope this is a good hire, I know literally nothing about the guy. (other than what I read here)

The way Staley runs his D, seems to put a lot of emphasis on the DB's, so this hire makes a lot of sense to me for that reason.

Broncos utilize split-safety less than the Chargers did under Bradley. Fangio uses Cover Two far more often than Cover Three, and have two excellent S in Justin Simmons, best in the league, and S Kareem Jackson. In Fangio's defense, S are like linebackers, defending the bubble behind the Mike & Will.

Bronco Beat Writer. Food for thought.

Thanks for the above posts. Good stuff!
I sure want to see better returns on our D talent.
We haven't played consistently well as a team.
            It's going to be different.
HC / D play caller, former DC and college QB Staley
DC, former secondary coach Renaldo Hill
DL, respected top vet Jay Rodgers
LB, D pass coach, vet Joe Barry

A guy that has worked in the Fangio D, with one of the elite S in the league. Did a good job developing Ojemudia as a rookie this year at CB. May not be one of the big names people were looking for but this fit makes a lot of sense. And if he is the next Staley we are looking at a 3rd round pick in the future.

I heard Staley will indeed call defensive plays. He spent the last year playing chess matches against McVay in practice. Does this make Hill more of a quality control defensive coach?

To use an offensive example, LaFleur and O’Connell never called plays under McVay. Reich didn’t either under Pederson. But they all helped develop the offensive game plan together and were all important. I suspect the same thing with Staley and Hill but for the defense since it’s an offensive league.

Former QB, former high IQ defensive player whisperer, now HC calling defensive plays + former NFL DB, played and learned under various schemes aimed to pass rush QB + Bosa and Derwin = defensive looks aimed to cause confusion and wreck havoc. At least that's my first thought.
