Shaun Sarrett Assistant O Line Coach

Anybody with the earned nickname of Sweet Feet is good to me as an OL coach.

Chargers expected to hire Shaun Sarrett as assistant offensive line coach

Sarrett is now the seventh coach to be reportedly joining Brandon Staley’s staff in L.A.

On Wednesday morning, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that the Chargers are expected to hire former Steelers offensive line coach Shaun Sarrett to be their assistant coach for the position. Sarrett spent the 2018 season as the assistant offensive line coach before being promoted following Mike Munchak’s departure to Denver. From 2012 to 2017, we was also an offensive assistant in Pittsburgh.

Prior to his time in the NFL, Sarrett spent time as an offensive quality control coach for Duke University and got his start in the college ranks at Marshall University as a graduate assistant.

Sarrett played his college ball at Kent State where he was an offensive guard. He earned the nickname “Sweet Feet” after a teammate noticed that he had above-average footwork for the position.

This is an intriguing hire if not only for the fact that the Steelers have consistently had one of the best offensive lines in the NFL over the past decade. Guys like David Decastro, Maurkice Pouncey, and Alejandro Villanueva have all played near the best at their positions at one point or another. It also just so happens that Villanueva is a free agent this offseason.

Could the Chargers once again reunite a free agent with his former coach in Los Angeles? I wouldn’t put it past the front office after what they did with Bryan Bulaga and James Campen in 2020.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
    The Wasted Decade is done.

With 8 years of some NFL coaching experience, looks like he's the old geezer on the staff.

32 years old. One of the better pass blockers in the NFL, but not so much a great run blocker. Steelers could tag him but are unlikely to. TT hasn't had much luck with aging free agents.

            Hmmmmm....

Steelers had the worst ypc in the league last year (3.2) but the most pass attempts. Also had the fewest sacks given up.

I can't say that I have watched him much this year, but as I mentioned in another thread about him - a couple of die hard Steeler fans I know think his tank is getting near empty - for whatever that is worth.

Does he get a bit of credit for being a late starter?

More like, can this infusion of new coaches do something with late starter Lamp, and others? Heh.

Can't wait to see what a new coaching staff can do, we're close.

What I meant is he didn't catch on to a pro team until age 26.

Maybe Sweet Feet can coach up Tevi and Pip...and Lamp...and Feeney...so they can be capable backups...
