Are The Chargers Settled At RB?

With a good OL, Ekeler, Jackson and Kelley can be productive.
    They cost only 8 M.
Please fix the OL right now !

Jackson can't stay healthy, Kelley didn't show much and while I love Ekeler in the 3rd down role, he isn't built to be a RB who can carry 20+ times for long. Of course they all would look better with a good oline but we could use another back. Having said that, we need help in other places before RB.

"The offense will be built around Justin Herbert" -Brandon Staley-

They'll need to replace Ballage through the draft... I wouldn't expect an early round pick. If they want to save a pick, they may even pick up a FA. I liked Jamaal Williams (GB/BYU) out of college... he'd probably come fairly cheap.

Draft a day 3 RB most every year. See if you strike gold before investing higher capital. If RB is the final championship piece then spend away.

We have one guy we can count on and he’s not built to carry the load, he’s a complementary guy. Jackson is more interested in being eOne than playing ball and Kelley isn’t NFL caliber. Was a gaping hole going into 20 and remains a gaping hole maybe more so now that we know JJ is glass. A great back makes the OL look good and feel good. OL love to run block. Need upgrades

Bad teams draft both QBs AND RBs high.

Good teams usually already have a good QB and get RB's in mid-late rounds as mere complimentary pieces and repeat it every other season since said RB is a bust, is injury prone, or wants a big contract and leaves. Furthermore a top 3 NFL RB rarely even makes it to the SB these days.

Its about having a good enough RB roster in terms of talent and health. Our talent is thin and our depth is thin.

Ekeler could be that bell cow if he was running into 200LB safeties instead of 300LB lineman.

I just think he is too small and much better suited as a back in a tandem with a bigger back.

It's much more about the lines than the backs behind them. The other problem with backs is that they have such a short shelf life.

We need someone that can pounded it in the end zone or 4 and 1. And can also close out a game

                        Cut Jackson...injury bust...
                        Cut Kelley...average at best...
                        Cut Ballage...too inconsistent...
Keep Ekkie...he's a great change of pace but not a Bell Cow...

Sign a decent FA RB...there's usually a glut of them, especially with salary cap casualties...
Draft a sleeper RB in late rounds...and as Ninja said, hope we hit the jackpot...
Promote a UDFA to be our 4th RB or PS...there's always a ton of them...
Keep an eye on other teams' practice squads for poaching targets...

                        Done...
