Maybe pick someone off of UDFA or waivers or 7th round. Jake Funk? Not a power back, but a good 1 cut zone scheme runner.

If it’s still an issue after the season, draft a guy in 2022.
    Good philosophy and forethought.
    - there will be several 2021 late round/UDFA RBs that could compete for a roster spot and also be ST contributors
—— RB - Gerrid Doaks, Spencer Brown, Chris Evans, Jared Patterson, Ben Mason, Caleb Huntley, Brendon Knox, Jake Funk, Kene Nwangwu, Gary Brightwell, Larry Roundtree III, Asim Rose, Mekhi Sargent
    - 2022 draft class looks deep with day 1/2 prospects.

Austin Eckler is a scat back he has greater value in the passing game than as a rb. He is not optimal as a starting every down back. He's solid 500+ rush yards per year but he will never by a 1000+ yard rusher. We could use a runner who can get you 800+ rush yards per year.

I kinda like Elijah Mitchell. 220 lbs and ran a 4.35 (if we are to believe 40-times this year) does have game speed and can get outside.

Like him alot too but he was only 5’10” / 201# at his proday. Explosive, fast, and great COD skills. He can put on 10#-15# and still keep his speed/athleticism.

I think the issue is the roster spot. I think rbs that arent all around do everything backs can be had in later rounds (Turner was a 5th right?). I bet maybe a 5th at absolute highest but most likely a few udfa to battle for a rb/st gunner type role like Turner started with before he blossomed.

i think our 3 are serviceable. Love Ek and would say probably the most dangerous open field rb outside of possibly Carolinas. But can he avoid the injuries. A good line might make this 3some look fantastic. The short runs get easy if our line can dictate vs the craptitude weve had since Diehlman left. If the line takes a major step forward watchout...we dominated top a few years ago when we went 12-4 and hands down the OL performance before injuries paved the way where. MG and Ek were on a tear. I want that again but with Herbert slinging it like last year. We dominate top again and that helps the D tremendously.

Back to the original question. How many recent teams made it to the SB without a "power" back? Most.

I'm not sure why people are so down on Ekeler. In the three years before this year he played in 16, 14, and 16 games. He's averaged 4.7 YPC over his career - running behind one of the worst OLs in football each year.

Ideally there will be a second back taking some of the load off of him, and a guy who maybe has more power. But hopefully the team is running the ball less often and the OL is better. This team does not need a primary back, we have one. We just need a complimentary piece in the late rounds or via FA. It's not 1985. Not having a probowler at running back is fine.

Khalil Herbert 3b or 4. I get my VT plug and we add another Herbert to the backfield. Win-win

Put him in number 01 and maybe other teams will get them confused.

He wore 10 at Kansas. 21 at VT, says he was Charger fan because of LT.
