  • Welcome Asante Samuel, Jr, CB Florida State (Pick #47)

    Pre-Draft Analysis

Samuel is a technically sound and instinctive cover corner who pays great attention to detail. He's quick, changes directions well and ran well at his pro day. He's a smaller corner with below-average length, but he plays bigger than his size and is an above-average run-defender. -- Steve Muench

    Post-Draft Analysis

This was a necessary pick for the Chargers, who are currently light on cornerbacks. His father is Asante Samuel, a four-time Pro Bowler who played 11 seasons with the Patriots, Eagles and Falcons. Samuel Jr. learned a lot from his dad, especially how to stick to receivers in man coverage. He was third-team All-ACC in 2019 with 14 pass breakups and an interception and had a team-leading three interceptions in 2020 in eight games before opting out. -- Shelley Smith

            Welcome Asante!!

            A nice compliment to Davis.

Crafty, instinctive, ball hawk, quicker than fast.

Hopefully he can be more durable than his size, great talent though.
