You could call that a downgrade in talent.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

Maybe from their prime but not from the older declining players two of those three are now

Yeah we are really gonna miss Ingram’s 0 sacks from last year.

He never claimed to be fluent in witticism. Agree, zero chance he displaces Adderley - Adderley is starting Day1 and I personally expect a big jump from him due to the combination of one year of hard lessons helping him “get it” combined with Staley knowing how to actually align and coach personnel UP!

Without commenting on Adderley’s skills, he’s a starter next year by default. There is nobody else to take the job.

Alohi has skillset, football IQ, physical traits, leadership qualities, and a production history that Staley can use in his scheme.
CHJR will play .05 and some disguised safety coverages.
Webb is big, smart, explosive in short area quickness with burst/ballskills, tackles well, and has a high football IQ in regards to route combination concepts. He’ll earn his money on ST early and will work into a role with coaching, experience, and motor.

If I’m looking at a short term vet, I’ll kick the tires on Tre Boston.
"Showboat" Boston had kind of a down year last season with only 1 pick and 4 PD's...u think he has any gas left in the tank?

Yes. He’ll only be 29. Only 1 INT last year but 14 INTs over last 5 seasons. He’s an average tackler, always around the ball, and give us depth/experience. I’m not sure we need to pick up anybody but he’d be one I’d call if so.

Id love to have Boston back. He just did his job. Only problem was he wanted to get paid for it.

Boston was great fit to our old D. He got knocked because he was slow to come up in fill vs runs, but his deep coverage was actually pretty good. God range and made good to great breaks on the ball. Not good playing forward.

The new D, a big, big part of it is to move the S around and hide the coverage, and hiding them deep, then coming downhill and making the play going forward. The S are asked to come up and fill, and be a major part of the run stopping on the perimeter. The split secondary asks the S to come down and take away crossing routes, so again, coming forward.

That is what he struggled with Carolina last year was he was asked to do a lot of the rotate down and make plays forward, in both run support and in coverage. That is what we want him to do in the new D. He is just not a good fit. Hopefully, Boston can get back into that deep middle S role for a team that plays that Seattle style of D with a single high S.

                          But we aren't that team,
