Staley was commenting as part of season in review. So I look for DL/DB depth to improve and for that to make us more consistent.
Staley admits we must improve and upgrade.
A lot of weird shit happened. Especially some of the refs calls.

He's saying basically in his exit press conference that we didn't have enough depth on the team to run the D on all cylinders. Again the problems on this team are very fixable and I'm pretty sure its safe to say Staley knows what sort of football players he needs for his D to run optimal.

PS IF the WR on the packers bails after this offseason that could be a good FA to give big money to.
Like I said before, I’m glad he’s the one that’s optimistic.

So Staley said what everybody knew.

We know they are going to spend money in free agency to upgrade the roster, presumably prioritizing the DL, and upgrade the right side of the OL, and probably get a quality complimentary RB to Ekeler, in free agency and/or the draft. If this team misses the playoffs again next season, does Staley get fired? (Barring any unforeseen dire circumstances.)

Like PI with the ball 20 yards away from the receiver. Ticky Tak holding and other calls while the Turds got away with everything?

Yep, it was disgusting. Hopefully Staley will learn how to be more vocal with the zebras on these bullshit calls. Being vocal has the effect of putting these bogus calls in the spotlight and maybe having the refs think twice about doing their fricking job correctly. It's also good for team morale to challenge this stupidity, it lets everyone know that you're not going to go quietly into the night. This is one occasion where a little spittle is warranted.

It can also have the opposite effect as well. Balance is good.

Results are what ultimately matters. But the right process will eventually lead to the desired results even if it doesn’t happen immediately. Just like his analytics approach. It won’t always work. But over the long run, it’ll improve your team and win totals. Now we just need to improve other areas of our team.

Especially non calls on holding Bosa.

Popper is offering up a straw man argument. For the most part, nobody is questioning Staley's decisions to go for it on 4th down, and yes going for it in most of those cases were beneficial.

But there were a few instances that Staley should not have gone for it, common sense dictated he take the points or punt. The first was the KC game when opted to go for it instead of kick a field goal with just a few seconds remaining in the half. The 2nd instance of course is going for it on 4th down on the Chargers 18 yard line with more than a yard to convert. Those two decisions were simply not the right choice, and it cost the Chargers points in games that ended up tied at the end of regulation.
