Was that exclusive to our team? I took it to mean in the league.

Ross took us to a SB if it's exclusive to our team. No we didn't win, but it worked.

Exclusive to our team’s history and Ross had been a successful HC in college

Still no NFL experience and many college coaches have failed in the NFL.

Staley’s lack of HC experience doesn’t bother me. It’s Lombardi’s experience of sucking as an OC that was ignored when Chargers hired him.

Chargers knew they had a generational talent at QB and they get a coach that was fired for incompetence.

That’s crazy. If there’s success, it will be because Herbert overcomes the boat anchor because he’s that good.

I guess we'll have hear the second guessing and hyperbolic takes until he wins a SB. If this team executed just one or two plays more against the Chiefs, we'd be 2-0. We didn't so in a bottom-line league everything is subject to scrutiny. But the team was in position to make those plays and I am not worried about him as a coach. I worry about our health and depth but we went toe to toe with KC in KC and were the better team. I expect we'll get better and better as the year goes on and will be peaking at the right time.
I like Staley but my gut feeling is that he will find true success in his 2nd stint as a HC elsewhere, whenever and wherever that is.

Good luck with that…..I doubt he’ll land on another team that has as much talent as Chargers current roster.

Ross actually had a fair amount of NFL coaching experience.

I like Staley and hope to hell we win with him. But I said it before MCCoy was hired, before Lynn, before Staley, before Norv, before Riley and on and on. The chargers have only been successful when they’ve hired a HC who was successful previously as a HC.

                its not a long list

There is a much longer list of successful HC’s that were not HC’s elsewhere in the NFL. What I think you look for is bright leaders that were successful in their other tenures.

                  That’s Staley.

Marty was successful because his team was as loaded as current team and he had really good DC and OC.

You may look for that of course but chargers have never been able to identify it. Staley is a copycat hire. McVay’s assts have been hired all over.

marty was successful in Cleveland and KC before he came to SD. He was a successful NFL HC and he repeated it with us

What I think this board looks for is reasons to comain lol. So who who is everybody down on? Staley or Lombardi? Geez, never fucking happy til we blow everybody out.

That isn't happening every week if you pay attention to the league and not just our team.

                        ..And many win the SB.
It's case by case, either you got a good one or you don 't.
Guaranteed Staley won't get the axe before the season is over.
Probably not then but let's skip the premature rejection.

Staley will be fine. He's got guys playing hard. The defense has vastly improved.
