  • Mike Williams Thoughts

In my opinion Mike Williams has not lived up to his 7th overall pick in 2017.

He's making 15 million a year? Why? He's had 1 season ONE over 1000 yards. It was 1001 yards to be exact.

Has never caught over 50 rec in a year.

I like(d) Mike. But he isn't worth his contract not by a long shot. I looked but couldn't find how long his 5th year option is. To me he's been a huge disappointment and I hope we're going to move on from him when his contract is up.

15 million for a bit role player is huge gross over spending. At most he's worth about 6 million per year if that.

Well yes they should discuss new deal but:

    - one less position to worry about in offseason / draft
    - not changing what JH knows,
    - new coaching staff to evaluate MW,
    - give team time to plan for future (Palmer?)

As 15 mils is massive for MW I do like him as player and can see logic behind him playing his option out.

Herbie and Keenan got connected really fast last year, Mike and Herbie started coming along later in the year. I love the crossing route MDub took to the house (and almost took the same play to the house another time)...Year two they are going to be tight and i expect MW's numbers to be much better. If he produces this year then maybe he is worthy of a new deal. Staley must see something he really likes in Dub and i am looking forward to what our WR's can accomplish in 2021. Go Bolts!

          He was kept
          a) to save face
          b) to get a comp pick next year
          c) he’s not that bad

Did we need another thread for this?

This has been an ongoing topic by some for the past 2 years.

I'll see if we have a topic already in progress. I agree, its been overdiscussed.

I can foresee a trade on the horizon maybe after the pre-season seeing how things shake out with the rookie (Palmer) and the UDFA (Elijah Stover). I also expect Johnson and Guyton to improve they showed up big last year with no experience prior to the season so we got 8 going into camp and if everyone stays healthy. Williams could be traded or this his last year.

            1. Allen
            2. M. Williams
            3. Johnson
            4. Guyton

            5. Palmer
            6. K. J. Hill
            7 Reed
            8. Stover

            Throwing out two scenarios

            1. Trade Williams to New England for Stephone Gilmore we need corner(s) current situation Davis( good player but not a true number 1) Harris (old best days behind him) Samuel (Rookie)
            2. Trade Williams to anyone willing to give up at least 3rd round pick and sign DT Richard Sheldon using Williams salary, that would have to be a get done deal soon as don't expect Sheldon to be on the market for long

Neither will happen, so a complete waste of time considering it.

His contract was up this year. They didn't move on from him. It will be up again next year; we'll see what happens.

They'd have gotten a comp pick next year by NOT keeping him. By keeping him, they're pushing the comp pick back to at least 2023 (if they don't re-sign him).

I looked, last topic on Mike Williams was last posted in 2/2020, so I'll let this go. But I do think that its been probably beat into the ground.
