I was for moving on this off-season but at this point I just want to get as much production from him as possible
I don’t see a happy ending with MW but he brings enough to the table that I consider all options AT SEASONS END and not sooner. That includes both, extending him and letting him walk.
again, at this point, idc if he is “worth 7th overall” in the draft 5 years ago. The most relevant question is, “Is MW an integral part of the plan to win the superbowl in Herbert’s rookie contract window?”
Looking into my crystal ball, I think I can find comparable production for cheaper in 2022 and lean towards letting him walk if he doesn’t want to take a hometown discount. Not saying he “should” but playing WR in LA with Herbert isn’t a bad gig.

I think it's simple, he doesn't drop passes, he doesn't fumble, he does make some spectacular catches and he has a great average per catch. I like a guy like that.

I agree with all of this. However, he doesn't always win on the 50-50 balls. He had one INT'd on him in the end zone last year, I believe it was the at Denver game. I wish we had a great YAC man. We haven't had that since T. Williams left. Maybe T. Johnson or J. Guyton become those guys. It doesn't look like YAC is Palmer's strong point either. He's more like MW, winning at the point of the catch.

^This...I'm thinking Mike Will will get us a 4th round comp, 5th at worst...

IMO I think MW is a good receiver but I don't think he has played up to being the #7 overall pick in 2017 who should dominate. New WRs like DJ Metcalf in SEA, AJ Brown in TEN and Justin Jefferson in MIN came in and dominated. He has been a good #2 WR but should be a #1 by now.

I think Josh Palmer was taken in the event he doesn't get resigned. What they really needed was a burner but maybe they can get that next year.

                Definitely one of many factors.
Both KA13 and MikeDub miss time in games or games all together during the season. Josh will be the primary backup to both on the outside.

Guyton and Johnson both run fast and can get deep.

Pretend he was a second round pick and you'll be happy.

If they resign him and he becomes our legit #1 and has 1,000 yd seasons w consistency it wont matter as much. At #7 you expect probowl type performance though.

Maybe we're reading way too much into all of this. The Chargers want to see how mike responds with a pay increase plus in a weird down year in cap constraints it's a benefit to all parties NOT signing a long term deal THIS year! Maybe Mike lives up to his $15 mil a year salary and the cap rebounds and everyone's happy at that pay rate. If Mike is oft injured again then the Chargers have a downward bargaining chip there or just plain release him if he has problems again.

We have one of the best #2 WR's in the league in Mike Williams and he is a big game big play WR. The Chargers are fine there they need someone to step up and establish there self as our #3.

Also this is his contract year and I believe he gets to ware his favorite #7, this is worth something!.... I believe he will do fine this season!
