Return of the living dead thread! Rivers vs Brees! It lives!!!!

5 NFL teams that could trade for Drew Brees

Should the Saints consider trading Drew Brees?

    Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Saints are in rebuilding mode and even though the New Orleans Saints brass said that Drew Brees is not on the trading block, it doesn't mean that they won't be fielding offers for Brees. Brees is certainly not in the prime of his career anymore and was obviously very disappointed when the team traded away Jimmy Graham. There are teams that could possibly trade for Drew Brees. The chances of the Saints trading for Brees is unlikely but you never know in the NFL. Brees did not have the best season by his standards last year, he threw for 1,000 less yards, 6 less TDs, and threw 5 more picks. Granted that Brees had a horrible defense behind him.

    5. San Diego Chargers

With rumors swirling that the Chargers might trade Phillip Rivers , Brees could go back to the place where his career started and play for a solid San Diego Charger team. The Chargers are likely going to receive a first round pick if they trade Rivers and will likely give up one to get Brees. It is basically a swap for a quality QB.

    4. Chicago Bears

Ryan Pace and Drew Brees have history back when Pace was in New Orleans. The Bears have a well known quarterback problem with Jay Cutler and Chicago should look to openly shop him. The huge problem is his contract and the fact that the Bears will likely have to give up picks just to shop him. Hard to see the Saints trading for Cutler. But there is always someone that thinks that they can change Jay Cutler.

    3. New York Jets

This could actually be an interesting one. The Jets now have two quality wideouts in Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker and all you need is a QB to make this a decent offensive team. The Jets could also draft Marcus Mariota (if he drops to 6th) as trade bait for the Saints. Don't know how good of a fit Mariota would be for New Orleans.

    2. Tennessee Titans

Both the Titans and the Bucs need quarterback help and New Orleans has a quarterback. The Titans will likely have to offer the 2nd overall pick to even get the Saints talking about Brees. But for a rebuilding franchise, a solid quarterback is exactly what it needs to get the transition started.

    1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Bucs have the best trade bait out of any team right now. They have the #1 overall pick. The Saints may be skeptical about trading Brees away to a division rival, but they might want to take the flier on Jameis Winston . He has shown that he is the best QB in this draft class and if the Saints want to think about the future, Winston could be their guy.

So anyone think that because the team knows it wants to go to LA and Rivers will not, that we trade Rivers for Brees??? Would that cause a huge meltdown for some or what!!!

Why would Rivers agree to an extension? Would the Saints be willing to rent Rivers for one year?

Louisiana is the south... Maybe Rivers would extend.

So playing for a Super Bowl is no longer a priority for Rivers?

I think they'd trade Rivers and draft Mariota before they'd trade Rivers and then trade for Brees. I least I HOPE they would. To trade for Brees at this point in his career would be a flipping joke.

"To trade for Rivers at this point in his career would be a flipping joke." right?

In other words, there really is no teeth to this article. It's hard enough to trade away a franchise QB. It's probably just as hard to trade for one. Chargers would have to do both to make sense of either option.
            Prediction:
            Correct: Chargers CI fails miserably.
Fail: Team stays in San Diego until their lease runs out in 2020. (without getting new deal done by then) .
Sig Bet WIN: The Chargers will file for relocation on January 15.

I hope that doesn't happen, but they aren't that far apart in age.
Rivers is only 3 years younger than Brees.
Brees 319 career sacks in 14 (really 13) pro seasons
Rivers 305 in 11 (really 9) pro seasons
It's possible they have a similar amount left in the tank.

*I couldn't find career stats for total hits.

The key to Brees' success is Sean Payton. I'm not convinced that MM could do what Payton did to help Brees.

Brees for two or three more years while Mariota develops is more than what Rivers would give us if we move to LA...

Not that I want this ridiculous trade to go down, but just how would they pull off getting Brees and Mariota?

Mariota would have to fall or the Saints would have to add a 1st with Brees because Rivers is three years younger, so we could packaged and trade up.

Easy. Trade Rivers to Tennessee for their #2. Then trade our #17 pick and our 2nd-round pick to NO for Brees.

                        You asked.
