Chargers @ WFT GDT and Post Game Discussion (Wk 1)

I will just say, friends, that in general first games of the year are not always an indication of how the season will go (good or bad). And that the way the Chargers play today won't likely be the way they play as they mature. So, don't get too upset if you see things you don't like today. Doesn't mean the season is over or that Staley and company are lousy coaches. Or Vizcaino is a stiff. Or Herbert will be MVP, etc.

I expect to see some slop here and there. And not everything the Chargers do is going to work. I think overall, the Chargers are a better team, but Washington is a good team with a great head coach.

LT had something like 30 yards on 15 rushes after 3 quarters in that game,
then he went off as Washington's D wilted.

Very good Charger team that could have won the Super Bowl that year......lots of bad breaks:
5 East coast trips,
4 games against teams coming off a bye (how is that possible?),
a late season loss to Miami with tons of players out with the flu,
key loss at left tackle.

I know alot of people is going to be excited to watch Herbert as well everyone should but i'm kinda excited to see how our defense plays. I mean c'mon we have Derwin James healthy, an exiting young CB in Asante Samuel. We have a HC who specializes in defense something this team has sorely lacked for a long time.

Washington has one superior position group, and everything else is skirting average, subpar or just flat out bad.


It depends on whether we see Fitzmagic or Fitztragic.....contain the run and hit him a few times and it will be the latter.

Did some checking: Fitzpatrick has played against Vic Fangio's defense just a few times since 2015 and he hasn't fared well.
He was on the sidelines against Staley's Rams D last year - should help a bit in that he prepared for it.

I suggested cutting Kelley and adding Murray earlier this week. There was some push back that Kelley also plays special teams. Well.. he isn't even active, so he is not helping to do anything game 1. They could have cut him, added the vet Murray and signed Kelley to practice squad. And they be in basically the same place now as far as the game 1 active roster with Murray inactive for game 1. But they would have better experience and depth at RB spot for the season if they had made that move. Oh well.
