And the strategy isn't working: Herbert ranks 28th in ANY/A on play-action passes this season.
Yep...anyone notice all the incomplete passes by Herbie to the sidelines? I wanted to see some more deep shots to stretch the Ravens D...

We also lack someone to run a deep over route as a real threat. Williams is probably the best at it but he's better on post/go. Parham or Cook I guess? Allen too slow this year so far. That's close to the route Diggs cut under for the INT.

A deep over is hard to defend in man coverage, especially if it's in front of a post to hold off the deep safety. When Williams got free on the post early it used a similar concept to pull the safety up so there was only a man corner with outside leverage vs Williams on a post. That was a clear scheme win but Herbert didn't execute. If you don't execute they don't back off.

The offense should spend the entire week working on press man concepts. If I was a D I would use it on us until we show we can beat it.
How about some deep shots to Guyton? Wouldn't that give us a better chance to beat that man coverage?

He has to get off the line. On the 3rd and 26 he had an opening but Herbert underthrew it by about 5 yards. Williams got open vs press against the Raiders and Herbert over threw him.

For the Ravens game today...don't know why but play calling very un-creative...run on 1st and 2nd..and pass on third there for awhile. A sure way to lose when your running game is not that good anyway.

Yep...it's like Lombo took a page out of the Lynn playbook for this game...ugh...

^ This...we needed to stretch the Ravens D...and it didn't happen...

We need more escape routes for Herbert
pressure was getting to him in the pocket
When he's outside, he can be mahomes-like dangerous
maybe some designed runs or more bootlegs
                  RPOs
At least against a good covering defense like Baltimore
                  Gimmie Bower Power!!

You know the Pats will watch and emulate the Ravens game plan, along with the smother job they did on us last time we played. Time for some adjustments.

Even when the offense is doing well, it seems like its so tough for them to do it. Like this offense with the weapons it has should be making it look easy but it rarely is. The two TDs against the browns on blown coverage is about the only ones I can remember from this season.

The play designs leave a lot to be desired.

Ravens are the worst team at defending the middle of the field and Lombardi did not game plan to take advantage of that at all. That’s unacceptable.

Fuck McVay for blocking Staley from bringing Kevin O'Connell with him to LA.

I’ve been watching the Rams games and he’d be absolutely perfect for Herbert and the weapons the Chargers have on offense.

O’Connell’s plays actually uses the entire field including middle of the field not just the sidelines. And it doesn’t require the QB to always make something out nothing. Stafford gets many easy layup type passes in that offense largely due to play design.
