But the idea of signing bonuses and spreading it over a certain period is what a lot of teams have done in the past to get short term relief. The Saints being the best example before the Rams did it. Andrew Brandt essentially said the same thing in the end as what I quoted. The cap isn’t a farce. There’s just different ways to manipulate it accounting wise especially for a particular year. But it’s not the advantage you think it is for a rich owner. What does currently give the Rams an advantage is that there’s been no major injuries to their big 4 core players: Stafford, Kupp, Ramsey, and Donald. It allows them to let other role guys go, save cap money, and replenish the supplies with draft picks. And they’ve been successful at replacing the role players so far.
But still, im just saying make it fair and the NFL should address it.
Also The Rams only paid Von Miller under 1 mil last season to take him on so they gained virtually nothing for him to sign elsewhere. They didnt lose anyone of significant money. But they signed their own to big deals and only restuctured Floyd which saved 12 mil, and Whitworth retired and they saved 2 mil from their punter.
Who else did they lose that saved them big money? Really no one.
They got Darius Wiliams off waivers from Balt so he was cheap for them and he went elsewhere this off season.

Rams FA losses
2022
Von Miller starting edge
Ogbonnia Okoronkwo rotational edge (79.2 pff grade)
Austin Corbett starting guard 1080 snaps 68.8 pff grade
Darious Williams starting CB 925 snaps
Troy Reeder starting LB 681 snaps
Sebastien Joseph-Day starting IDL
WR OBJ (so far)
Robert Woods
2021
Morgan Fox
Austin Blythe starting C 1119 snaps 69.3 pff grade
Michael Brockers starting 4i 624 snaps
Troy Hill starting CB 972 snaps 74.2 pff
John Johnson starting safety 1026 snaps 85.6 pff
Prob more I don't remember.
10 starters and 3 key rotational players over 2 years is a LOT of guys they chose not to pay. These are all solid to good players, not busts.

Granted there are only a handful that can or will.

If you look at all the rich owners, like Jerry, even they had to make tough financial decisions this offseason such as releasing Collins and trading Cooper to be more cap flexible. I also see a lot of one year deal.
Also, look at how the contracts are structured for all the Rams signings. As I mentioned previously, some of the contract numbers are misleading to say the least.

Its just bonkers for the Rams:
they lost Woods but signed Allen Robinson to a Mike William's-like contract,
they signed Bobby Wagner to a five year contract,
they resigned Joseph Noteboom to a large contract,
they'll bring in OBJ mid season.
They are in cap hell and still are competitive with Charger signings in a once in a blue moon Charger off season with a qb in his rookie contract. Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
The Wasted Decade is done.
