Better O-line will make Ekeler really shine. He is so slippery that instead of making DL miss, he will be making safeties miss and getting chunks

After next season, he has a cap number of 21.7M with 5.4M of dead money. Thus, cutting him frees up 16.3M of cap space. After that season (going into 2024), he has a cap number of 25.8M, 2.7M in dead money, and thus cutting him saves 23.1M in cap space.
Unless Keenan manages to have the two best seasons of his career in 2022 and 2023, he will not be playing 2024 under his current deal. There is a real chance he won’t be a Charger come opening day 2023.

He has a lot of guaranteed money left currently. But after this year, I believe there is only 5.4M of guaranteed money. And after 2023, that number is 2.7M.
Next year will be very telling with where he’s at and what they want to do.

A money saving replacement for Williams is still gonna take a receiver probably 2 years to even approach MW’s past season stats. Keenan Allen lucky choices are rare. I’m gonna hate on TT if he takes the attitude that a suitable receiver will do in order to upgrade some other position. After seasons end next year, TT’s ass is gonna be on the line. He best remember that before he goes tweaking currently well manned player positions, no matter the cost.Last edited by Caslon; 01-18-2022, 09:48 PM.

At this point I’m buying the idea that Williams and Herbert have chemistry which adds to Williams’ value for the Chargers. Let’s go ahead and get him resigned. It’ll be more cap friendly to do that than it will be to franchise him.

So maybe get MW signed to a long term deal - backload it so that if you adjust KA down the road, Mike Williams can get paid more down the road
